Gloucester County Authorities Warn Of Phishing Scam
The Gloucester County Consumer Affairs and Prosecutor's office are warning residents of a phishing
scam involving a photocopied check being sent through the mail.
The scam asks the resident who received the check to exchange it for airline tickets. The check is
in the amount of $1,350 and has the name "US Airline" printed on it. This airline does not
exist.
Authorities are asking you to be vigilant of this bogus offer.
"At best, you could get bamboozled into an expensive travel scheme, and at worst, responding to this
offer could make you an identity theft victim," said Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton.
"If something seems too good to be true, it usually is," said county Freeholder Lyman Barnes,
liaison to the county's Department of Consumer Affairs. "If you are unsure about the validity of
any offer you receive, in the mail or via e-mail, contact the Gloucester County Department of
Consumer Affairs by calling (856) 384-6855.
