Open Office is a good free alternative if you don't have access to Microsoft products in your
location/country.

No you are not wrong. MS Word is a word processor. You can insert images, but you will only be able
to resize/place within the document. If you want to do image editing, you'll need a photo
editor.
Photoshop is a popular choice, however might not be available for you. GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/)
is a free alternative. It will do pretty much everything Photoshop will.

them! If you have any difficulty, contact their ‘After Sales Support & Service’ team – they are

Microsoft Word, LibreOffce or Google Docs. One can use anyone of his/her choice but Microsoft Word
is the best one.
