Salam everybody!
I'm a medical student and I'm working on HIV-AIDS issues, mainly related to prevention and care for the youth and for women.I was wondering though I could find on TIG some arab people working in the same field and know more about the situation of the epidemic in their country and about their activities.

Thanks god we are having lowest rates of infection of AIDS.
our relegion customes are still keeping this virus away of our commuinities.
But the increasing numbers althought they are still small still a problem, and I hope that these numbers decrease more so that this virus stays away of us and our peoples.

Drugs!

salamu 'alaykom,
My friends Imane, Injy, Sarah and Liz pointed out at very important aspects of the HIV/AIDS problem. However, I think that even if the infection rates in the Arab region are still low, drug doping is continuing to be the major cause of the spread of this virus in the Middle East, and not sexual intercourse...doping is the most persistent danger..

AIDS in Arab Countries

what we need to accept is Aids is a desease that any human being can get, not only through sexual contact but through blood transfusions and other activities that make one come into conatct with bllod from infected persons. Sometime back in 2003, we were traveling with college mates and lectures, we found a public transport bus that had collided with a truck we all got off and helped take thus still alive and in the wreckage to safety and later to hospital, some of my college mates and lectures got cuts and bruises in the process, they may never know but may be they had come into contact with infected blood. lets respect the victims of AIDS and not casgate them, they are still human they still want love and still want to feel as part of a family, church, circle of friends and so on.
if we can apprecaite that and take care, love and respect the HIV/AIDS victims we shall be moving forward to a better world.

I agree

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to say that I do agree with Sarah. Although sexual practice does have a significant role in the spread and transmission of HIV, it is not the only risk factor. Religion can play a wonderful role in both protecting those who are negative from becoming infected through support/custom and also providing a place of acceptance and love for those who have become infected or affected by the virus. There are so many factors to consider when talking about HIV/AIDS - many of which are not openly discussed with ease or comfort. For instance: Gender inequality, rape, infidelity, poverty, children at risk (street-kids), and the list goes on.
I hope that we can learn to not judge or assume we understand the the lives, choices, and mistakes of others - rather we should make an effort to reach out and open our minds to their personal reality. HIV/AIDS is the reality of way too many to make generalizations.
As an afterthought - if you are looking for people from Arab countries who are interested in HIV, you can do a search for TIG memebers based on the two criteria. That may narrow it down for you a little... hope that helps!
~ Liz

Dear friends,
Thanks for all your messages! It's been a while I didn't check the forum,I was too buzy at the maternity hospital where I'm working so sorry for the delay
I totally agree with Liz and Sarah.
The spread of the virus has nothing to do with religion or culture, but with a terrible lack of information and prevention. The rates are still low (well..not that low:an estimation of 550 000 cases...)but for how long will they remain so of the authorities continue to ignore this problem ?In Morocco, the first prevention campaign was launched by the Ministry of Health in 2002 and despite the difficulties (lack of means, population's access difficulties etc...) many efforts have been made.I think that it's a good example to take and that this issue should not be anymore a social "tabou".
Salam!
Imane (MOROCCO)

Hello,
i am a chinese girl from Malaysia. Even though Malaysia is not a 100% Arab country, but most of the time, Malaysians are encouraged to practice what the islams do. I am sure you understand what I mean. In terms of HIV/AIDS. This topic is usually not discussed largely in the medias or in schools. I have asked around and talked to my teachers and friends. Most of the time, Malaysians get the informations about Aids online. Regarding this online thing, I am not sure whether are the people logging on to the right channel or not. Nonetheless, public awareness about HIV/Aids are still low in my point of view. However, I do encourage my male and female friends to practice safe sex and to control their urge if possible. hope this helps.

Hi All,
I’ m from Tunisia and I think that like any other country, Arabic countries are concerned by the HIV/AIDS and youth sexual health and right in general.
I also believe that the Arabic youth are more and more involved in the fight against AIDS, but still less than other countries, especially concerning the Advocacy and their reproductive rights.
However I’m sure that the Arabic youth will start being more and more involved toward their social responsibilities, and then be part of the decision making through a meaningful partnership with adult and stakeholders

Hello everyone,
i am a medical student and a HIV/AIDS activist in my country, NIGERIA. Well i think that arab countries are no exception to the scourge of hiv aids. This should be because it cuts across all maners of religious, ssocial and economical barriers.
hiv aids must be stopped everywhere on this planet by living the promise.
