Are any of you thinking of starting your own business? If so, what kind, and why?

Your business ideas
Nov 16, 2004

Why, in particular, would you like to start those particular businesses? What steps are you going to take, if you decide to follow through?

First of all, I would like to start something that I really like and that I know. I don't want to start something only because it may be an opportunity in the moment. But before I start anything, I will analyze the markets, SWOT, trends, do market study. Then I know what customers will like and what kind of innovation I can add to it. Then a business plan along with marketing plan and I'll go for a race to find financial assistance.........yeah a long process but worth it when you do your best and don't hurry. That's a quick response

Whats a B & B? oh... Bread and Breakfast?

I had the idea of opening a library cafe... books for free... coffea/tea, platter of chocolates or other kinds of food for money. quiet place, dark but with single/double tables with stylish reading lamps. hmmm....

what do you think?

although this form of business requires a huge amount of capital, the risks involved are limited. This is because human beings have a funny nature, the one that doesnt stop them from having fun even when they cannot afford it. they also have evry reson to celebrate. Therefore, such a business is sure to thrive whether its on the peak or offpeak season of celebration.

2 years ago I was thinking of starting an e-business for web, graphics, and logo design. I began by creating web layouts and graphics for free for customers, but then my interest in it gradually drifted. I don't have any intention to open up my own business at the moment.. but perhaps it's something that I might consider in the future.

I also think that the internet provides a lot of opportunities for people. But there are many scams that are run through the net thus people have to watch out.

I think it's a common trait in many of us to dream about having a business or making it big in the life. What I want to do is something beyond this. My idea is to be able to help others realise such dreams. I have already planned to help out a very close friend of mine who wants to open a restaurant. I know it would be a great pleasure being a driving force for someone!

i would love to run an all-in-one organic food shop/cafe/yoga studio/workshop centre. people could buy their groceries, get some exercise and grab a bit to eat all at the same place.

another would be to create a mass language exchange website so people could set up to meet and learn new languages or improve on second languages.... perhaps this could lead into a dating service wink

i like the previous post about new bars. there needs to be a fresh approach to the bar scene. hmm... what could we do? first off... more koi fish ponds and bali beach style cushions/interior design. how cool would it be to lie down w/ your friends while having a few drinks... any other ideas?

so many ideas... we need to get more and stop talking and get it started in here!

i would love to hear more feedback in this forum!

I just did - launched a Comic Book and it was the biggest independant Comic launch in 10 years.

#8 in overall gross for the month of July - circulation over 100,000

also in the middle of launching another film project - look I am spearheading about 5 major projects, which in smany way are their own small biz - employees, taxes, contracts, negotiations - I have to coddle people, I have to yell at people - really depends on the day.

Biggest thing to know if you are going to start a biz is how to control spending, and how to motivate people - that and knowing who to trust.

That's really good!!! Having kinda conference on Yahoo Messsenger and then people can discuss business on that conference.
For me, first you should have interest on things that you intend to do and it's bring you most benefits in terms of material and spirit.
Second, you should examine whether you have ability to do it or not...
