projects abroad

Hello wonderful TIG Land. I attend college in Texas and I am the president of a club entitled Cultural Awareness Student Association, and I have lots of ideas for this group. I really want to take them abroad, involving ourselves in some form of aid concerning issues of poverty and development. I know there are endless possibilities out there, but I do not know where to start. The group does not have much money but is eager to raise what is neccessary. I am asking for information and ideas as to what, where, and how my club should act. Our goal is to become more aware and knowledgeable on cultures abroad, and the best way to accomplish that is to travel. Thank you for your time and information.

Customary Laws

Just to invite you and your fellow students to a wealth of
centuries old culture that survived when the modern statehood failed. I am calling you from Hargeisa, Somaliland a place that at present is making a world record for statelessness for more than a decade, but functioning so peacefuly and sound through culture and customary laws.
Since the late dictator of Somalia left the country in 1990, under a severe bloody armed struggle to oust his regime, the country (Somalia) remained without a state.
Somaliland, united with Somalia on 1960 regained its independence from that failed union and self declared its statehood but, unfortunately, so far not recognised by the International Community. The country is now very peaceful and made a great jump towards development.
Somaliland is self-made and functioning with an elected president. two chambers of parliament, and independent judiciary system all of which are based and established
on the pillars of the culture. I invite you to witness our
customary laws and culture which is worth to study and a model to the African countries in conflict and crises.
