I can see from the options we've already realised that fossil fuels just aren't an option anymore for this planet.
I think it would have to be a combination between all of them.
3 quaters of our planet is water - lets put it to use. It can never run out, there will always be water on this planet (and when theres not there won't be any life so it won't matter anyway) so it's obvious to use it where possible.
I know that solar power isn't really an option where i live but in some countries it would be a good idea - there's always sunlight - use it!

yes Lone-Wolf you're right! we'll never run out of water! there'll always be water even if it will be poluted, we'll always be abled to use it! so it's a great source!
kaiser i have never heard of that sort of energy! interesting thing!

You forgot CHEMICAL energy.
In our local Praefecture we had a presentation on how thing works. There are jars filled with chemical essence and with influx of heat ( +90 degrees ), that essence warms up and processes start to happen which nearly double the influx of electricity !
I was amazed about the surprising results and was willing to fund the further research of it. But at that time i was already funding "food plasma initiative" project. There are funding limits here as well, lol.

It exists as a force between atoms and molecules. I hope i cleared the blank spots lol.

Perhaps Fuel Cells?

Sounds like Kaiser is describing a fuel cell: containers with chemical reactions making electricity while also getting hot. Certainly fuel cells are growing in use.

Exactly! My limite knowlege of english technical language limits my potentials to clearly explain what it is. Sorry.
There are sources freely avaiable on net, but are well hard to find. Best source i use myself is www.wikipedia.com free encyclopedia. Lot of science in very readable form avaiable.
Keep this topic up please its excellent.

We are running out of water!

I'm a big wind power fan because the number of people on Earth does not effect the supply of the wind. ‘Pressures resulting from unrestrained population growth put demands on the natural world that can overwhelm any effort to achieve a sustainable future.’ As populations continue to grow exponentially in developing countries, access to basic resources including water and food will be affected.
Population Action International (PAI) expect that by the middle of the twenty-first century, over half the world’s population are likely to be living in countries with ‘chronic or recurring water shortages’. Already Pakistan is water-stressed and its population is expected to double to two hundred and seventy-one million people by 2025. Countries are considered to be water-stressed when their annual water supplies are below one thousand and seven hundred cubic metres per person, while water scarcity is when these water supplies drop below one thousand cubic metres per person. At present approximately thirty-one countries face water stress or water scarcity and statistics suggest that by 2025, another seventeen countries will be added to this group. Considering that the amount of freshwater on the earth is finite, then as populations grow, the supply per person decreases. As urbanisation continues, cities increase their withdrawal of water from rivers and lakes. In developing countries where there is already water stress, the effect of future population growth on access to water is a significant issue. Fresh water is also crucial for the growth of crops, and indeed roughly seventy percent of the world’s fresh water supply is used by agriculture.
So solar and wind are sounding good and wind power is doing amazing things here in NZ, will post more info on this later but yeah

Human Power
October 11, 2004 - 08:30 AM
|
|
The developed nations of this planet cannot seem to see or at least admit that our demands are too high. The problem is the abuse, waste and missuse of what there is. As they freely continue to seduce the children onto this legal path.
With the resources that are readily available in nature and those sprung, developed and evolved from Mankinds ingenuity there would be enough energy to supply the Basic needs of all humans for a long time.
For selfish personal and indoctrinating patriotic reasons the Economic Wars seem to have to continue putting much of life in jeopardy by the energies needed in these needless fights and scraps. The so called leaders are but the best followers of our foolish past and present doctrines and/or puppets of the wealthy and their lawyers.
I have put "Human Power" as another alternative for we all have the capacity to move objects. Muscles, and many groups of, and a mind to control them.
It seems a waste that so many people of the "have" groups have all this capacity stored up in them and yet they are not utilized. Fake work is encouraged, pushed, admired and recommended and is more rewarding then real work because that is the way we have evolved! Do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with mind power. I just think that we should apply what we know now for a better cause then greed.
Mankind (or is it the leaders?)needs a good twinking.
Gerald

yes Fiona, that is a good point! but we still have the sea! i know some power plants that work on the difference between the high and low tide! but as for the wind energy, it is clean, and there's plenty of wind! but there's another problem, BIRDS, as they hit in these things, so most of them die! i know this problem, because they want to make a huge wind energy power field on top of a mountain chain, and it is said that the vultures and other birds will colide in them! but i am actualy a supporter of this kind of energy as long as it doesn't harm the animals!

The problem is not the decadent OECD
October 12, 2004 - 02:42 AM
|
|
The issue is not really how to continue the lifestyles of the OECD countries, it is providing enough for the developing world. Even if you assume the developing world can "leapfrog" the OECD with new super-efficient technologies (use maybe 25% of the per capita US electricity), China and India would need to install over twice the US current capacity just to cover their current populations. Even if the US and other OECD countries stopped using electricity, the developing world would use even more due to their large populations.
Bringing enough energy (especially electricity) to the world without over extending the environment is one of the BIG challenges the globe faces.

you know, i think that the developing countries should open many power plants, with the investments of the developed countries! these power plants wouldn't be just good in the energetic view, but also many people could get employed there! so this would be a great thing for all these developing countries, they all have got huge potential! just look at all those deserts, there's so much SUN!!! they only need foreign investments, these developing countries have got the "gold" the clean energy sources, they only don't have the money to build these power plants! china however has got a bug water potential, but the problem are the beautiful historic sites!

i have read about this really cool power plant in spain, which works on sun cels, but it is not like the others are! it's really different! it's a tower, and the sunlight is collected there and then i don't know how it goes on! but it+s really cool and clean!
