Here's one: the impact of the Internet on the "media" (I'm refering mostly to online news like cnn.com). You can even use TIG as an example because people post news links here constantly. Print media won't die for now because you can't take time.com to the bathroom!

you can also do something like "Imapct of Media on Public", refeering to cases where media played a great role or refering to cases were the role of Media was criticised.

Media , I guess covers both Print , audio and Visual, I mean, paper, Television, Radio.

Even "Changing role of Media in everyday life" can give u a lot of stuff

hi b,
I know how confused u r. I was in your position 2 years ago in my final year in the mass media department in the faculty of arts.
what about the future of traditional media after the rappid raise of the internet in the new millinium.
u can talk about your expectations for the tv radio and press in this face off who's gonna be first and who's gonna be disappeared.
I my self made a team project on the methods of media coverage of terrorism and violence in the ninties of the 20th centuary and it was very intresting concentrating on tv coverage. the credability of internet as a source of information will need some adjustments and be fine too. good luck.

The best suggestion to a person doing a project or writing is to make it something you are already interested in. If you are interested in being a newscaster do a project on them. If you like writing humor (which I did briefly to a very small but grateful audience) then focus on that.

I think making a comparison between technologies of the past and today would be relevant and interesting. Show how much things have changed since lead typesetting and manual printing presses. Now we use digital photos, Quark XPress for layout, and work processors (Word, OpenOffice) for writing and printing presses are fully automated and almost run themselves. Take a tour of a print house...it's actually fun!

A deeper one would be the impact of politics and/or business on Media. For example: Time/Warner owns CNN which is the worlds most popular (arguably) TV news service. No biased coverage there! ; )

hey guys! u all have been a great inspiration. Its weird how the same things are going on in the media all around the world. Im kinda torn between two topics.

1) how marxs ideoology theory is still relevant in todays media. This would then draw along the points of how the media are succumbed to the pressure of higher institutions such as CNN which is a great example. also people like Rupert Murduch and I think there will be alot of info on this topic.

2) The impact of the media on public opinion
This would draw along the lines of how much people believe what they read..what impact this has on your vote or opinion on specific topics. e.g migrants. I feel that this topic may be quite broad and abit 'common'

any opionions on above or additional ideas greatly appreciated. I really want to have a fixed structure before September and really appreciate your help. THANK-YOU!

I kinda believe that this could grown on to become an interesting thesis if you are able to support it with some credible research.

For instance I believe that although the media in any part of the world has the ability to mould public opinion in whichever way it desires. However... the media is never fair, rarely honest, and usually works to cater to certain vested interests. And that is the sad part.

Well, you can gather a lot of material for option 2, effect of Media on Public opinion and I would suggest the same for ur research. Marx theories, well, u need to dig into lot of material to gather little info.

this is another idea:
inter-cultural communication in online forums and discussion groups.
is this a dissertation? i mean do you need to have a quantitative methodology? in that case you also need to consider what kind of methodology goes with what topic.and this will narrow your choice.
all the bests,
khatereh

what i mean is depending on what part of the communication process( sender, channel, audience, message, ...) you want to analyse, you need to choose an appropriate research method which actually measures it.for instance, if you want to focus on the audience- their attitudes, opinions, needs, etc- the most appropriate method would probably be a survey, using questionaires. whereas if you take "message" as your focal point, you'll have to consider methods such as dicourse analysis or content analysis.
