Description:
Communications Rights in the Information Society (CRIS) is a campaign to ensure that communication rights are central to the information society and to the upcoming World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). The campaign is sponsored and supported by the Platform for Communication Rights , a group of NGOs involved in media and communication projects around the world.

At the PrepCom1 of the WSIS, serious concerns arose about whether Civil Society will be able to participate in the WSIS in a meaningful way, and also about whether the agenda of the WSIS will be narrowly focused on ICTs or will be broad enough to include communication rights.

CRIS is concerned with communication rights for all, and young people both face particular challenges and bring particular strengths to the campaign. We hope more TIGgers will get involved in the fight for communication rights, in the WSIS or in other fora, and with the CRIS network or in other ways.

Goals:
- Ensure that Communication Rights are central to the WSIS
- Ensure that young people have a voice in the many struggles for communication rights at the local, national, regional, and international levels.
- Create an understanding of 'information society' that places people at the center, with communications technologies understood as tools that can be used either to help build social, economic, political, and environmental justice, or to further erode these areas and reinforce the current system of massive global inequality.

Needs:
- More young people to join the CRIS network
- Links with other organizations that are already doing related work

I just had a look at a descriptionof this project, and read its brochure. This is one issue, I assume, all of us here stand for. we all understand how much the public is delluded by the media, and how much it is turning more and more to the service of those who pay. promoting a capitalist culture that presents the widening gap between the haves and have-nots in rosy colours.
This is all about seeing things as they are not as some COE would like us to see them. It touches the lives of many, including myself.
we have a role to play in this. we should work to advance it.
