Well, I have just read your posts to my discussion on world peace and I agree when you suggest that it is up to the people because the governments have other interests. I don't agree that powerful governments are focused on speading hate. The real problem is the way governments are created. Lets consider the US for example. How does it conduct foreign policy? Through the State Department for diplomacy and through the Department of Defense to protect - what it (mostly incorrectly I think) are its national interests. The true fundamental interest (concern) of any government, powerful or not) is peace, because that is the environment which produces the most stability, permitting the most - and healthiest form of - economic growth leading to prosperity. But diplomacy produces agreements between governments in the interest of the people in power, not people in general. And military activity - however well intended - will have negative consequences which perpetuate misunderstanding, bitterness, hatred and through that will plant the seeds for future conflict regardless of whether success is acheived in the short term. So, ultimately, you and other contributers suggesting that peace has to be produced by the people are correct. Governments cannot be trusted because they are created to first-and-foremost satisfy the needs of the people who manage them. Globalization obviously is having some awful - mostly awful I believe, since it is fueled by powerful economic interests - impacts. One positive impact is that governments are becoming less relevant. But how can we acheive peace when what seems to be emerging to assume control are powerful economic interests which - like governments - also do not exist for the good of all people? One thing is for sure. It isn't enough to just talk about making the world better - as we are doing here. We all have to DO something, no matter how little it may seem. For my part I have been working with social programs in Brazil for a decade. You may see at http://www.rhythmofhope.org . I hope you're doing something too.

Greetings
There has been much talk about governments and peace, but what incentive are there for the religions of the world to strive for peace between them.
All the major religions advocate peace, so were is the problem?
In the spirit of peace and interfaith relations

I concur with Udara's 'poem'. The only problem is that most people don't have peace in their minds and wonder why every other person should have this.
This is a major problem causing conflict today. If only we can live and let live then there will be peace.

So should we just let everything alone? If we do then the suffering will only continue more forcefully. The cruel and powerful will realize they have the freedom to act.

Peace for all one way to live as before
May 30, 2005 - 06:11 AM

Dear All,
I am interested in peace for all as any human in this earth should,,,i wrote a story about peace in the world..i made the world as aland and the religions as aflower and ppl as all flowers ,,,now in the story i wrote thats there is one land can ppl live together in it..its the (peaceland),,so those flowers can be live in one land if they working together to build it by peace,power,corporation,..etc..my point came from the history before thousnds of years where the muslim, jewish, christians lived together in peace,,also thats not my talking only ,,,but there is Well durant who wrote the story of civilization in 50 years said thats.
So we can live together and there is too many ways,,the land need pure waters, clean waters..go away from the polutions,,,need white hands and clean hearts,,,every one take his right, his land, his right of living, eating, drinking clean water,,have money in his/her pocket...either in social, economical, political situations.
Thats will happen in the (peaceland),when every one took his right..another thing if the rights you want it or me or anyone didnt get it,,the peace will not happen in peace ways..coz every right must be get back in anyways.
Thx alot
