Youth in your city
June 30, 2004 - 03:21 AM

Are youth in your city involved, or uninvolved? Do they have a voice in city planning issues?

I don't think that youth in my city are really involved on a municipal level - I think that generally they're active on a national, political level, but not really within the city itself. Do you think it's important to be involved in city politics?

There is a similar situation here in my city(Kampala). There aren't many platforms for young people to speak up. We have youth leadership structure right from the village to the District level. At each of the levels, there are youth councillors. But their impact is hardly felt.

There is also a poor attitude(in my opinion) about how much the old people in authority think young people can contribute. And this is deeply rooted in some local cultures here

YOUTHS & National Development
July 23, 2004 - 08:00 AM

In my own country Nigeria, the youths are neglected. The youths always referred to as the "Leaders of Tomorrow" are not recognised. They are not included in programmes aimed at the development of cities, talk less of the country as a whole.

With this in mind, i raise a question:
What does the future hold for the youths. The youths are the once who would reside after the expiration of older ones, how would they cope with the problems ahead. This is really a menace.

Even at all levels, there is no involvement. Certain suggestions can be given as to how to incorporate the youths in activities.

Pls feel free to give ur own suggestion

In my city (Phoenix, Arizona, US), youths are often frowned upon because of certain bad elements in the youth social group. Some of the youths in the city vandalize people's property (I have been victimized twice) and commit crime. However, I am trying to spread the message that there will always be certain bad elements in any social group, and one should not magnify the bad element and have it represent the entire social group.

As for youth opinions, the youths of the city are often uninvolved in many decisions, except for a handful of youths who do stay involved. My friends and I are trying to raise youth awareness.

No. In my city(Kathmandu)youth are not involved on a municipal level. But it is necessary to be involved in nation building process. youth are potential for every country on their nation buliding process. In my country(Nepal)youth are marginilized, their vioce is not heard by the government. Meas a youth activist raising voice that youth and their's voice should be address.

KL Youths spoilt.
November 6, 2004 - 03:33 AM

Youths of all ages provide different ideas and opinions, with or without guidance. In all the threads mentioned, including myself, we complained that youths has lack of power. I agree with it. We all have the answer to the solution but we only pay lip service. Now, let's push the "future" button, I predict we will still shake our heads saying "tsk, tsk" Look at the youths,...with all the crime record etc...

It's a no-win situation for anyone. The only thign we can start is like one of the members mentioned, creating youth awareness. I tried try and will keep trying to create youth awareness. If, I cannot do it in a group, I will do it individually.

Malaysians youths are not much difference of the youths overseas. However, we are luckier than some youths whose countries are at war and financially unstable. It is going to be difficult for me to approach my Prime Minister and tell him to fix the problem.

I am going to try my best to fixt it myself, starting from a small scale.

This is a very interesting topic!!! And I love to speak up about this kind of thing.
I live in a small town in southwestern China named Dali. Youth have no say whatsoever here in Dali. I went to a public school for two years and during those two years I had made a huge impact on the students. At least I gave them the courage to speak up their minds. I always spoke up my mind, I always questioned authority, I was firm in my beleif. To see the students look up to me in this way gave them more encouragment to speak up themselves. But I left the school last year to take up homeschooling again and so it has returned to its same self. But I plan to make an organisation where students can speak their mind, where we can come to a conclusion, and where we can bring into action our ideas.
This is actually a serious problem in the world because youth are the future, youth are our future and we should give them a chance.
