Language Preservance

I think it's quite important for one to understand where they come from in order to understand where they are going. One way is through Language. For instance in my country South Africa when it was still governed by apartheid laws the then goverment tried to impose the language of Afrikaans on all South Africans because they saw this as one way of futher oppressing black people and preserving their own Afrikaans Language.
Obviously black students opposed to this Language being used in all subjects as it was the language of the minority and not many people understood it.So preserving our language is one way of preserving our identities and our culture.Another example would be the old media in South Africa, where almost all the newspapers where written in Afrikaans,Television programmes were mostly in Afrikaans and were ever you went every sign was in either in afrikans or english.
But know it's great to be part of this beautifull country where you know that even the most indigenous language is recognised through our diverse media and in the constitution of our country.
I believe that everyone would be proud to say south Africa has eleven official languages and sign language.
