the last taboo

is talking about female masturbation the last taboo? why is it socially acceptable for guys to talk about masturbation and not for girls? (especially when, statistically, almost as many girls masturbate as guys.) what makes it so scary to confront?

Lets see, first off...i think this prolly drew a laugh from most people...well...from guys i guess.
*list stuff jace.*
- it is a behavior attributed more to guys than girls
- cos girls see their sexuality as sumthing as private
- society says..'good' girls should do it.
(btw...i asked 2 people about this....so these arent all mine)
- and i dont think guys talk about it as much as some people think (at least not from my experiance)
Well...that about all i can think of.

ok, ok, so it's not the last taboo and that was a gross exaggeration. but even though it probably made you laugh, i think it's an important issue cos, as far as i know, no-one really talks about it, which is strange in today's western society

I totally agree, with one exception i dont know a single girl who will admit to masterbating, some guys talk about it A LOT, others dont. maybe girls talk about it amongst themselves, i dont no not bein one. It is a taboo (in England at least) for girls and its somehow seen as dirty. I watched a movie last night and the idea of male masterbation came up at least a dozen times (it wasn't one of those movies, it was a teen movie), but the iidea of women doin it, no chance.

Taboo?

I'm not sure why you see it as a taboo, I grew up with knowing about it. I was never told to be quiet about it. It definatly wasn't a conversation I did talk about with my best girlfriend or anything. I always talked about it with guys I know. Although, I don't really know what they thought about it. I definatly don't think it should be taboo anyway. But it's not something your bring up to a stranger sitting at the bus stop. "Hey lady, what do you think about when you masterbate?", probably wouldn't go over to well.
Well hey, anyway, I think it's great you brought it up. I am curious as to why you feel it's taboo. If you've never brought it up then how would you know it's taboo. So basically I'm wondering, what in your upbringing makes you think that?

what a funny conversation

In my experience, it isn't such a taboo for girls to talk about it. At least among themselves. I've had all kinds of conversations with my girl friends about it, and even with a couple of my guy friends. Actually, more of the GUYS I know have bigger issues talking about it than the girls do. And I also find that some guys become uncomfortable with the idea of a girl masturbating. I don't really know why.
But I think part of the whole taboo surrounding female masturbation is the same taboo that has been surrounding female sexuality for years and years and years. For a long time it was completely socially unacceptable for women to see themselves as sexual creatures and be open about it, while men were free to express themselves however they chose. Times are changing now, obviously, and I think female masturbation and sexuality in general is becoming something very accepted and understood. Just watch an episode of Sex in the City and you'll see how relaxed we are. Over the past 30 years everyone's been loosening up.
