Crisis at The Niger Delta....
June 7, 2004 - 02:41 AM

Saturday 5th June was just like any other day of those weekends that come and go.However I was shocked when I tuned to CNN's latest events unfolding at 1000GMT and caught a glimpse of what was happening at the Niger Delta.
Nigeria happens to be the 6th largest oil exporter in the world, exporting up to 2 million barrels a day.The Niger Delta, being a very resourceful section of the country, has all the eyes of oil multinational agencies glued at it.However, the inhabitants of the Niger Delta are being oppressed and are living in abject poverty,To make matters worse, they are being evicted from their current location simply due to the interests of the multinational agencies who've intentions of investing there.I clearly understood when I saw the locals in anger that they could dare whatever it took to keep hold of their land;beneath which lies immense oil resources. Two American experts were killed and the multinational agencies say they are not going to be threatened by anyone and are ready to go ahead with their mission. Can The Government do something to help these people? For they are paying a price not called for.Victims of circumstances they are.Otherwise it's definitely"OIL:POLITICS AT THE PUMP". Thanks to CNN's Jeff Koinange
