Yes it affects teens I am one I strongly agree with the fact taht media affects us as teens!!! well the music a lot of teens listen to is promoting to have sex and just do what you want to. well they shouldnt being doing that when they should be concentrating on their schooling or anything like that. Also the videos and stuff like that they watch! there is a lot of stuff promoting kids to do lots of stuff that will eventually harm them in the future in many ways!

I would never do. But I know a million people who would, And I think media influences us in a nagative way because in media they have a certain look and everyone want to like the people in media and the people who dont get picked on and i think that is really unfair.

The media plays a big role in determining what's "hot" and what's "not" and to impressionable little kids and teenagers, who are forever trying to be in the "in" crowd, the media has a huge effect on them. If the media chooses to glamorize suicides, what are the chances of mass suicides occuring globally? High? Low? Maybe suicide's too extreme an example, but my bottomline is that, Teens have a choice, and the choice is to conform or not to conform. The media has a negative influence because they choose to be led by it. If they had taken the approach of evaluating before accepting notions planted by the mass media, they would not be that easily influenced. And the very essence of the evaluation, is that whether or not that notion or ideal comes into conflict with personal ideals, personal principles. Teens will not go around committing mass suicides just because it is being glamorized (at least I hope they are discerning and smart enough not to). They will not do something unless they too believe in it and accept it. You need to have your own mind and yes, in the case of impressionable young teens you do not have it, the media has to be discrete in deciding what to promote or not.

I think that media has a negative influence on us teens. I'm mainly talking about music videos. Music videos are giving us the message that we should do all sorts of things that we wouldn't do if we didn't watch them. Some music videos tell us that it's good to smoke but really...Is it good to smoke? Just because the music video tells you something, that doesn't mean you need to do it. There are several other things that music videos urge you to do. But before you do something, think about this...Is it really worth it? Some people listen and do what the music videos tell them because they want to become popular. I personally don't think, that that's worth it. So "think" before you "act".

It comes down to choice

It depends on what teens absorb from the media. If all they care about are headbanging, anorexic, self-centered punks who dish out their dirty linen in public on music videos then they would likely be influenced by depressive moods. However, should they prefer to watch educational TV like Nat Geo and its affiliates, I believe there's more good in those.

the media is just another way to help people label others. if you dont look this way, ur not cool. all media does is tell teenagers that they should look like this because its considered "cool". everybody is different, so they should be themself and not try to be like the people on tv or in magazines or in the paper.

how media effects teenagers shows me that adults want to control how kids act. it also shows me that teenagers are very influencable. some of them are smarter then the media thinks and does not try to be exactly like the people in the media, while others just want to be "popular", so they follow and dress exacly like the people in the media. it all depends on how influencable you are to wether you follow it or not.

It's the corporate attitude
June 16, 2005 - 11:23 AM

I think the corporate mentality has a lot to do with the way media delivers. With all the mergers & acquisitions going on, there is little room for creativity because what we see are conglomerates and not individual businesses. And what is the message of such? "You are inadequate, you need us, support our business, we make you feel good."

What values do we learn from Paris and Nicole's cutesy behavior on TV? Did the viewers learn something good when Nicole, for instance, cursed during dinner in a religious woman's house and relished it like it was the sweetest victory against the adult? Even when the woman said something like, "In my house, you don't speak profanity." But I guess the producers don't mind as long as they get to promote their sponsors' stuff in the form of the girls' skimpy, inappropriate, and indecent attires. And worse, they get to capitalize on young people's desire to take a peek at the "real" world of the heiresses for all their perfect image.

And what do we see? Two dumb blondes doing manual labor in their body-hugging, skimpy outfits, and high heeled shoes. Great! What an inspiration!

media sucks

I believe the media has a negative influence on teens. It causes lack of confidence. I believe the media could be positive if it portrayed positive images. Paris Hilton is dumb Nicole richie is a recovering drug addict and they praise them the media needs to get the facts and portray some of these people and substances for what they really are good or bad?

i must generally agree with the aforemention arguments, but what you are not considering is that this is media. mtv is not the only source of media teens are influenced by. what about the messages of the punks of the 70s and 80s. their message was to rebel agaisnt conformity and take a second look at the man's oppresion. much as we are now. mtv is a spawn of satan. media is not

Hi Eistoor! Yeah we're talking about media in general and why we think it's either negative or positive for teenagers, mtv is just one example. And about the punks of the 70s and 80s, they also influenced people to use dope and the cause they were fighting for died down because it was mass hysteria more than anything. Look at it this way, those punks who fought against conformity and oppression are the adults of today who are politically correct and political correctness is the god of conformity.

Everybody in the world know what is right and what is wrong. Either media or no media whenever one is doing a BAD thing, your conscience will definately be condemning the act but people atimes do things for no reasonable reason.

I believe media affects teens more positively than negative cos what most teens grow up to watch on tv are cartoons and and other educational progarmmes but after getting to see other ones that are not bad and when they are not being checked by the parents ,guadian or adult, they tend to believe that such things are okay too.
