Tasnim You are almost Imune to what most Girls Feel after watching TV
June 7, 2004 - 06:30 AM

even an averagly pretty girl will compare herself to those people that they see that supposedly have all of the fame and wealth that they have found and many do not deserve and even fewer do any good with. Probably only one in a million does not try to make themselves into some other that they have seen in a magazine when the most important and hardest job we all have is to become Ourself, the Self that was made in Perfection even though We can't see. Sincerly, Gene

P.S. Media is a sales tool, it is not about Information, I know you don't beleive those lies that they tell US.

At least it ruined my self image. (when i was teen - not too long time back). In fact i dont look "very" good, but watching TV can really push you way below such feeling, and can cause many problems, such as avoiding people, avoiding camera etc.. In my case i sometimes feel VERY uncomfortable around group of people, if i am put in centre of attention.

the first law I will see past is that if it is above 85 degrees Farheinhite You must be buck naked indoors and out and if it never get to be 85 in your neck of the woods You must join a nudist Polar Bear Club. I hate to be in crowds, too. But you just have to go on in, Life is out there it is not in a hole. Peace/Out Gene

HEllo,

Media affects the way teens think of themselves in a great way i must confess.

Most of what they do,think, act or even say come from the media either positively or negatively.

the media is a medium to learn and know new things which the teens are aleways eager to know and experience.

Just my Opinion

As Abraham Lincoln was favored to say or was that P. T. Barnm?
July 1, 2004 - 12:30 PM

you can fool all of the people some of the Time But you can't fool all of the people all of the Time, no Barnm said " there is a sucker born ever minute." there is no limit to what influeces any one even Youth (if Man was built to live a 1000, aren't even I a Youth?) Every body, Almost, wants to influence all of Us to their way of thinking, yes even you when you chooce a certain type of outfit or even in a book report writen to a teacher's way of thinking for a certain grade. To me I feel that you try to bring Peace to me, and I thank you so much because right now I have to find Peace in my souls and on my street and in my world But more impotrantly to me I pray that you will all ways find Peace in your Life. I guess it is the way you write, direct, to the point, with no malise to even some one who is rude, my mother spoke like that. Can You stop a fight without anyone knowing that a fight was breaking out or distract someone from their anger long enough for them to just get rational enough that all can see the right Choice, does a room become calm when you walk in. I already know all the guys just shut up and just look dreamey eyed like they are somewhere else, but that can't count. And even if your answers are all no to these questions, the world needs your Peace and if you can bottle it I know I can sell it at any price. Linclon and Barnm both said they want a share. Peace/Out, Gene

not just teens
July 7, 2004 - 10:53 AM

I love how the media itself often has articles about this and that researcher saying children will develop ADD or teenagers will become more violent because of TV. I don't dispute that research itself, I just think it's funny how everybody expects certain groups (young people, poor/uneducated people) are easily influenced by things, while middle-aged, educated people aren't.
The level of conformity displayed by middle-aged, educated people is enough evidence of how easily they are influenced. For example, spending money and time dressing a certian way but not even because they enjoy it, having a job which is unprductive to society and unenjoyable to themselves just so they can afford status symbols.
I think the real threat is how the voting-aged public are manipulated into supporting policies that cause harm to their own lives and society and cause suffering and death to people in other countries by the media with it's commercial interests.

Re: Is media....?

I am so sick of hearing my peers talking about the people in magazines and on tv. 'Oh they are so cool! They drive like mad and they always wear the latest styles!' Being in high school, i encounter so much of hearing this during classes. It does effect the way youth think. They judge themselves by others and by the 'latest trends'. I really do hope that one day, people would think for themselves completely instead of what tv, magazines, etc say that they should think, dress, and act like. If we arent truely ourselves, then how are we ever to make it in the world? If we cant be or find ourselves, then how are we to grow up and become good persons?! I really dont take much mind to the media and whatnot, for I hate what it does to people. You're always hearing of people hurting themselves or others because they dont think they are cool enough or people make fun of them for what they wear or act like. I've never encountered this first hand, but my friends have. I just wish that I could explain better what I mean without struggle to think it up into words. Hope this helped.

April, How does it go?
July 16, 2004 - 10:46 AM

How does a poor kid understand that they are good little boys and girls even though they did not get any Christamas, does not the Media tell all little boys and girl that if they will be good they will be rewarded. Now how could you deal with the knowledge that You only got an Orange, were You Only a Orange's Worth of Good? me

I think you should be happy with the orange, because somewhere else, another little 6 year old got nothing at all. What does this have to do with media affecting us?
