Influence of Stereotyping

There is a great difference between stereotyping someone and discriminating them, of course niether are good. Sadly, I sometimes find myself stereotyping minorities like African-Americans and Hispanics, I feel very guilty of it, but it is something that has always been there. Of course I know that I should treat them like equals because of my conscience and I really want to be a good person, but sometimes I do stereotype and I feel so bad when I do.

“undertake appropriate measures to ensure the consistent application of the provisions of the Convention”;
ensure that any amendments to the Native Title Act
“ensure that the protection of the rights of Indigenous peoples will not be further reduced”;
consider a formal national apology for those “forcibly and unjustifiably separated from their families” (Stolen Generations), including considering monetary compensation
activate the reconciliation process, for any country or community to build on the protections present in the Racial Hatred Act 1995 and in particular to withdraw its objections to Article 4 (a) of the Convention which outlaws all dissemination of ideas based on racial superiority or hatred, incitement to racial discrimination, as well as all acts of violence or incitement to such acts;
address the factors contributing to the disproportionately high rate of incarceration of Indigenous peoples compared with the general population;
address the issue of the impact of mandatory sentencing in some states and territories, in particular, its racially discriminatory impact on the rate of incarceration of Indigenous Australians, especially juveniles;
“implement faithfully the provisions of the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, as well as the 1967 Protocol thereto”.

Everyone stereotypes, whether consciously or unconsciously. Have you ever laughed at a blonde joke, or some comedians routine about a specific type? I think that in context, some so called stereotypes aren't NECESSARILY bad, however, its seems to me that those who make stereotypes who are actually quite ignorant to the truth, that is where many people are at fault.

yeh i think that most people stereotype to an extent...
if you have an experience of a certain group of people acting in a certain way, it's hard not to come to expect that of people from that group.
i suppose you just have to try not to assume to much about a person but at the same time not to be too naive.
