"Is it in self-interest that drives businesses to adopt a CSR Approach. Does it matter the motivation?"
Hey guys. First, a little introduction. My name is James, I'm a 16 year old student from Australia. For one of my classes, I've been given this essay question. I looked through a couple of other threads, but couldnt quite find the answer.
I was wondering weather any of you guys could help me out. I'm still a little unsure about it. Any information would be most greatfully apreciated.
Thanks

There is this question that is often in the mind of many people. The question is: What actually drives corporations to adopt CSR?
Actually there are various factors that contribute to a company adopting CSR. But the most are the push factors where companies are forced to act responsibly by activists and human right groups. Other corporations are proactive enough to learn from the mistakes of others and take care. A look at whats happening globally will tell you that CSR is inevitable. Now most of the people are watchful of their rights and there are less chances of corporations escaping.
Moreover, with the communities giving licence to operate as cited in various cases in Africa and Asia, the corporation will have to be responsible enough to have the consent from communities.
