Do you think this is slavery?

In my country Bangladesh, rich folks buy and sell poor people. These poor people are brought from the villages to the city and are forced to work. They are seperated from their friends and families forever. They are thrown in peoples homes and forced to work. However, they do get paid. But, they don't want to be slaves and live a life like this. Do you think this is considered as slavery?

culture facilitating abuse??

in my view it is slavery and any instance where humanity is abused is not correct. some may explain what happens there as a cultural/societal occurence--but it is still not right. call it what you may... slavery, forced labor or anything, it is wrong. the question is, how do you change a society's way of thinking... especially when there are economic benefits involved? it took a long time for slavery to be abolished in the americas because the slave owners and traders benefited from it all economically. but it ended, and the same must take place worldwide.

Yes it is because, the person is still being forced to work. The slave does not actually want to do the work, he/she is forced. Even though, the slave is being paid it is not fair in any means. It is still not fair in the terms of human rights. Therefore, my answer is to your question is Yes, this is still considered as slavery. Anyways, I have some personal information that I have to share with you. In Bangladesh, my country which is related to this post, I knew relatives, such as uncles and aunts who brought poor people from villages to the big city and make them work.

In my opinion, yes this slavery because although the slave is being paid, the slave is being forced to work as well. It doesn't want to work in a job like this. It doesn't want to live a life like this. Also, the slave is being forced to leave it's friends and families. It's not fair. I would also like to share some personal information with you. Even in Pakistan which is my home country, there is slavery like this. When I lived in the villages the poor used to be ripped apart from their families and put to work in the city. So as a result, that is considered as slavery.

In my point of view, yes it is considered as slavery because, the slave doesn't really want to do this job. It's being forced. This is not fair in terms of human rights. According to Dumisani, "any instance where humanity is abused is not correct. For that reason, my answer to your question is yes, this is considered as slavery. Anyhow, I would like to share some personal information with you, in my country Bangladesh I used to do the same. I used to have my uncles and aunts bring slaves from the villages to the city and have them work for me. Now I didn't know if they wanted to do that work or if they didn't because I didn't know their feelings. However, I do know that what I did was wrong. And I will never do it again.
