Yesterday in my Mass Media and Politics class we watched a video discussing how deregulation is occurring in the media world, which allows for single companies to own radio, TV, and print. This barrier was put in place to ensure a diverse range of voices could be heard, but thanks to the change now one single voice can, and probably will, dominate. Even more disturbing is that Europeans knew more about the reasons behind September 11 attacks and possible threats than Americans because we were too busy watching entertainment news. It’s not the American peoples' fault that we get entertainment news; it’s the broadcasters fault. So here is my question after all that background. How can we or is it even possible for Americans to take back the media and demand that we get quality information rather than an update on Heidi Montag's latest plastic surgery.
