Re: Banning teenage tanning in California?

Y'see, I like to think that too much government intervetion into people's choices is bad, but then I turn around and get all supportive of laws like teh one you just mentioned.
Here's how my logic works:
-Tanning salons profit from providing a harmful service.
-California is so sunny, why would a person pay for a tan?
-If you can tan outdoors anyways, it is pretty vulgar to make people pay for it, especially if it gives them cancer.
For some reason, I don't think it's fair to say it's a person's own fault for being stupid enough to go to a tanning salon.
Any Australians out there? What's the opinion on tanning salons down under?

I'm from Australia and I don't really get why people would indoor tan either. It's winter at the moment and guess what- it's sunny outside!
One reason could be that they needed to get tanned for some special formal event like highschool formal (or prom) that was on the next day, but the weather was cloudy and tanning inside was a quicker option.
But then, still, couldn't they have a professional fake tan instead?

Banning Tanning?

Do they really think this will prohibit teen kids from tanning?
They need to block out the sun before that happens
As for health well, teens generally are not all that concerned about health
On the inside anyway Outside is what their concern is
And the future is a long way away
Adult skin cancer? Not in the guide to 'Teen Health' Booklet
I know it's something they want to help kids with
But getting rid of tannning booths
Or limiting age too over 19 or 20
Will probablly make teens fabricate fake ID cards and nothing more
I don't go to tanning booths so it does not bother me very much
But I thought it was interesting that this was brought up
Thanks great topic

Strange how so many will risk skin cancer by getting UV radiation and yet are usually so afraid of radiation in general. :-)
