The Religiously Tolerant American Soldiers In Iraq

Humiliated
In the Washington Post's accounts, several Iraqi prisoners are quoted giving graphic details of abuse by US soldiers.
One detainee, named in the report as Ameen Saeed al-Sheik, said he was asked by a soldier whether he believed in anything.
"I said to him, 'I believe in Allah.' So he said, 'But I believe in torture and I will torture you.'"
He said one soldier struck his broken leg and ordered him to curse Islam.
"Because they started to hit my broken leg, I curse my religion," the paper quoted him as saying. "They ordered me to thank Jesus I'm alive."

This is horrible...I don't even think that the "sanctioned" abuse stooped to this level.
What I find even more incredible is how stupid the soldiers who said these things are. What would Jesus Christ think of a "Christian" doing this type of thing? Also, don't they understand that (in essence) their "God" in Christianity is essentially the same "Allah" from Islam? It all goes back to Abraham.
Instead these idiots make as much a mockery of Christianity as the Islamic Extremists do of Islam.
This type of thing certainly does not help to bolster the case of the US trying to "help" Iraq (although, I don't think that the treatment of the average Iraqi who is fortunate enough to not be imprisoned is probably bad at all).
I think that the best thing that could happen now would be for the Iraqis to take over police services and prisons as soon as is possible (probably early July). At least this way, although I still suspect that the treatment of some prisoners will not be great, the entire system will be open to and operated by the Iraqi people themselves as opposed to some outside force doing it.
I really hope that we find every soldier who committed these abuses and punish them for being so un - American. This is *not* the way that 99.99% of Americans believe that either prisoners of war, nor criminal prisoners, nor even terrorists should be treated. I don't think that life in prison should be like living in a 5 star hotel, but this makes most Americans' blood boil.

I would be able to know everything from any prisoner:
HOW?
Be nice, do not do anything harmfull to them, regularly ask them for information. Only thing what they could not do is get out of detention.
What are americans doing is plain torture and humiliation.

I respectfully disagree that it is always possible to gain information by simply "asking" repeatedly. There are some people who probably will not reveal information regardless of the methods used...torture has actually been proven to be an ineffective method as it either makes the victim say anything to prevent the torture or it further hardens their will not to speak. In either case it is not only inhumane and barbaric but it is basically stupid. Still, there are some people who will never reveal the information that is needed from them.
Please also consider restating your last comment as I am sure that it is not what you meant to say. Perhaps a better way to phrase it might be:
"What SOME Americans are doing is plan torture and humiliation."
In spite of what it seems that many people want to believe, most Americans are kind and peaceful people who deplore these acts as much as anyone. To pre judge or stereotype all Americans is quite unfair. I suspect that this was not your intention.
God Bless.

I think that with people suffering of poverty, illiteracy and ignorance, peace could never be brought to middle east. First of all, the Israeli occupation should stop and Yassir Arafat should go home. And youth should take action. That why I invite you all to sign the petition in

No it was not my intention to smudge the whole American population. I said it under effect of pictures i seen time back. Well, what is done is done. Cannot be undone anymore. Can only be a bit changed for future use (......)
I still conclude asking people regularly, relentlessly for information is the best form of interrogation. (if you have time - since prisoner is not going anywhere).
