Great Pacific Garbage Patch

I think this is one topic of environmental concern that hasn't reached public knowledge yet. This is essentially a great big patch of accumulated garbage carried by currents of the north pacific gyre. They are marine wastes composed of plastics and other debris, which is of a considerable size; almost twice that of Texas!
The debris then can either go two ways: inside the stomach of wildlife or stay and accumulate organic pollutants. Either way,it eventually gets eaten by fish, and it poses imminent danger to the wildlife and to the humans who eat the fish contaminated by those pollutants.
Many efforts have been made to stop this and to cure the oceans of this. Isn't it more apt to stop the cause (neglect and carelessness of us humans)right in its tracks?

I agree with you. Garbage is one of the world's problems today. Let me share a story on what happened to our school.
That day it was raining hard; who knew that it would be a big disaster? The rain's pouring so hard, and the flood rose that the residents can't leave their houses without riding a boat. We didn't have classes for 3 weeks because of the flood that hasn't subsided. We even stayed on another campus. Why did the flood rise so high? Because of garbage. Garbage were stuck on the drainage, slowing the subsidence of water. Garbage: How do we ever solve this problem? Many answers were given, spoken of. But still, garbage will remain as garbage wherever you put it. Globally speaking, recycling is still the best way to prevent addition on garbage problems. You can't decrease garbage, cause they keep coming.

I agree. Recycling is the best option we have. Or atleast garbage should be systematically managed so that no harm comes to aquatic life.
The life forms in the sea being unintellegent doesn't mean they can just be ignored and left to die. We create garbage and price is paid by others. (and some cases us humans)
Isn't any government taking responsibility to stop this?

Hi!
I'd like to agree that recycling is the best way to solve this, but I think it poses more a problem than what recycling can fix.
Recycling is a very neat concept indeed. Many platforms, many programs, many endeavors have the goal of increasing active participation of the community in recycling their wastes. However, i'd like to point out that while many implement the idea, not many capture or implement the principle of the thing. Many just seem content on saying that they recycle while truthfully they haven't.
Oh, and I think there are some private institutions that constantly exert effort in cleaning up this mess.

Hi.....
I can understand what you are trying to tell us Levy.....
But dont you think that it is very hard to develop technology while saving the environment.....
Please guys dont misunderstand me...
Im not a bad guy who pollutes the environment....
The environment might get polluted .... But after scientists come to a good state in technology they will start developing the environment using modern technology...
As you can see 99% of the world scientists are trying to protect the environment.....
Dont you think that we should help those guys???.....
Even on this forum can you see that there are a lot of issues on environment.....
What do you say guys????
Please share your thoughts with me...
Than You

Hi Adhisha!
No, I don't take it wrong so its ok . I know what you are trying to say and trying to point out too.
But then comes a central point of argument. I guess saying that scientists are on the verge of developing alternative ways ,which are not all that polluting to the environment, in certain aspects such as energy and etc. would suffice for now; and they even have some progress to show us. Yet, what I would like to ask is this: have they developed any method or way of FIXING those present and persistent problems? I'd say that we have to fix this while its still not that late so we won't regret it later, before we try to stop the growth of it.
