terrorists?

I'd like to have a clear definition on the words "terrorist" and the word "freedom fighter" as so often the two terms are intertwined. It just seems weird that in the 1980's when the muhjadeen were fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan to the American people they were freedom fighters and now the same fighters are deemed terrorists.

A terroist is one who impedes the freedom of a person or a group of person.
A freedom fighter is also one who fights the terroist to become free.
That is it for you.

Those Chechnins - who blew up the Prime ministers - those are terrorists - at some level you kno it when you see it - those guys who wanted to detonate chemicals in the center of Ammen Jordan - those were terrorists.

Terrorists and freedom fighters are very closely related, the definitions so far are probably not very useful. Just like the word "democracy" freedom fighter is used by people who like you and Facist is like terrorists, used by people who don't like you. Luke examples of terrorism fits this definition, just like democracy and Facist if no universal definition is defined then you are free to call whoever you want whichever name applies. For example was the recent PM death a terrorist action or a legitimate act, since the US has set the presidence that you can kill the leader of a nation.
I think an objective seperation though is that freedom fighters like the conventional western army tries to limit its agressions to valid targets. So they would actually attack the military, regime headquarters ect. Whereas terrorist go over the line and will attack civilians to get attention. Of course civilian run resources is a grey area, the US proved in Afghanistan how effective this is as a legitamate strategy, however at the same time freedom fighters don't seem to be allowed to do it and keep their name.
So basically its a matter of how you go about it and who rights the history books, ie do you win or lose. If the US had lost their fight for independance the "freedom fighter's" methods would known as terroist activity in the history books.
