The future of our waters
May 20, 2002 - 02:40 AM

I have been wondering about this for a while. Is it possible that one day we won't be able to swim in the oceans or enjoy our waters?

Tell me more mrj:

I am currently writing a paper on scale and globalisation. I want to take a case study from the water resource sector. Perhaps this may be a valid example.

Thanks,
Marcus

It's actually a worrying trend, considering the high risks it is under in terms of pollution in developed world, defforestation in 3rd world countries......and with the ever increasing population, will you really fit in a pool that used to contain 5 of you when you are now 15?But we can still do something to keep it available to us.For one we can advocate for proper use of marine resources.Governments should come up with policies to protect water-catchment areas....and environmental activists like you and I should be more vocal to ensure no misuse of water at any single time

[b] This is one of the crucial aspects of our future. The conflict with water will surpass or wild imaginations. We draw our water mostly from Rivers, streams, creeks, underground aquifers, wetland and lakes.
water usage, quality and availability is becoming political in all spheres.Rivers are interstate means of commerce connecting cities, countries and far flung areas. As Rivers are drying, communities using such rivers are under stress for, they drive their livelihood and nutrition.Rivers like Jordan,Nile,Amazon,Rhine,Mississippi,Colorado,Missouri and Ohio are decreasing in volume every day due to excessive withdrawals for domestic and irrigation purposes.
political redistribution of water is ideal especially in the parched land s of the world

Its already to that point. It was released that like 90% of the streams and lakes in the US are contaminated, theres pharmecuticals in both the drinking water and in lakes/streams. In Philadelphia, the drinking water even had 48 different drugs in it, things like hormones, anti-seizure medication, anti-depressants, ADHD medication, etc. Not to mention that it was released today the 35 states in the US are contaminated with a chemical used in fuel for space ships and the Environmental Protection Agency refuses to clean it up even though it causes serious thyroid malfunction in children and pregnant women.
