Racism on TV

Do you see racism on TV as you saw in the early 60's? Do you think it's fair to seperatepeople just because they are different? Well I think it's not, and it should stop
There is less now then it was before on TV and that's a good thing, black's weren't allowed to go on stage but now they seem to have the most talent

Hi!
I agree with you that people from all the cultures should be allowed to work in television and other types of media. Also I think that it should stop now! Next, I think that the racism have been decreased since 60's because now more people are working together but still there are a lot people left who still are racist to other people. I hope it stop one day and soon!
Thanks

I don't know that much about the 60's but today, there are more multi-cultural shows than it used to be. However, there is still a lack of diversity in shows that involve either all white, or all black. I don't see much Asians on tv.

racism on TV

Okay, I think that media/tv is racist. I also ahve done a research on racism and I found out that 70% of models are white and they always show Indians with an accent. From my perspective, not all Indians have the accent. But if that is what Media is showing then that is the image that we get for that particular race/culture. But gradually racism is decresing. So I would say that media is racist.

Compared to the 60's, I think that media on tv is racist. For instance, there are 2 "The Wizard of Oz" movies. Not trying to be racist or anything, but one movie is with all white people and the other is black. Not to mention the fact that Micheal Jackson was the scare crow in the Wizard of Oz movie. There are even some shows like the Simpsons. Mainly all the characters are white and the Indian character "Apoo/Apu" has an accent that makes everyone think now a days, that people from India speak that way. Especially, the song "Welcome to India" is a big influence because all through the song the Indian rappers have the same accent.
"Welcome to India where the cows eat hay.
We drive auto rikshaas, everyday.
Goat, meat, yummy sweets, wild monkeys roaming.
The roosters don't crow til 5 in the morning."
So, my thoughts and opinions say that there is still racism in the media.

Racism on T.V.

I think Racism is growing. How? Well, so many people in our society today still make fun of Indian people on T.V.,for instance "The Simpsons".In the Simpsons they give Apu(The Indian charactor in the series)an accent. I think that is a form of Racism because by giving that charactor an accent makes viewers think bad things about indian people.

Well, I don't think it's fair to seperate people because they are different. It's also not fair that the majority of people in television are the whites (no offence, but how can I put it? English?) There still is some racism going on in TV, but it is gradually declining. (My Opinion on this) I believe that the more racism there are in TV shows, the more it encourages people in this world to be racists, so that has to stop.

I do not think everything should be viewed as racism. Especially in comedy shows, nobody should get the favor treatment. I mean, no one takes those jokes seriously, it's just satyr. Sometimes, you just gotta learn to laugh at yourself, it'll only make accepting others easier.
However, it is true that they could use a bigger variety of ethnicity in actors, especially in shows depicting an urban environment. It would also be fun to see less stereotypes on TV.
In my humble opinion, things are getting better as far as racism goes, in appearance at least. Some cliches still stick, but many new series depict a more realistic portrait of racial relations that have evolved alot since the 60's. How often do you see black people looking really dumb and uneducated nowadays? Not that often anymore, I would say. Even when some ethnicities are stereotyped, it's nothing really mean or condescending. At least, that's the way I see it. And come on, in the Simpsons white people look way more silly than Apu. After all, us white people only eat donuts, watch TV and drink beer all the time.

The media has come a long way since the 60s, but there is still a long way to go. There are still many stereotypes that are negative, for example, how many times do you see a Latino character that is a ganster or poor vs. being a doctor or an upstanding citizen? It's shameful that in our modern day, not even our fellow North Americans (if you're from North America) can be looked on in a positive light.
