Pretty much all country music singers are white! Does that make country music racist? i don't think so.
Just because most rappers are black, doesn't mean rap music is racist. Don't forget where rap music was born, in the ghetto, where the majority is black, so that is why most rappers are black, but i personally know a lot of people involved in Hip-Hop (rappers, grafitti artist, djs...) in the States, and in France, who are white.
Now, about the music industry in general, the real racism is money, big business. Those who run the music/entertainment industry, care first about money, they don't care about your talent, your skin color, as long money is coming in.

Huh?? does that mean that the ghetto is all black? That white people can't grow up poor and in a bad neighbourhood? Just because the country music community is mosly (if not all) white, doesn't mean that there aren't black people who have the talent to sing country. maybe there are a lot of white people who can rap. Maybe they are being discriminated against by the black rapping community. Think about it. =)

yes, there are a lot of white guys involved in the making of hip hop now.
But i do have one opinion i want to share... i think white or black or whatever color that controls the media is not doing the right thing with mainstream rap.. with all the bling bling and the 'booty' women. I think they are just marketing sneakers and jumpsuits and creating a pseudo-scenario that is supposed to be where hip-hoppers are supposed to be... Black people can do better than that.

Yeah! Third bass, with... sinister, prime minister...Pete Nice! :-) (i forgot the other one's name). That was back in 1991 i think...some old school joint! lol...but as far as i can remember, the beasty boys were really the first signed white rappers, and they are still respected in the hip-hop community.Like Frokem said, rap music is about reaching out to the crowd, and as long as you got talent, your skin color doesn't matter.

I never said the ghetto is all black...i said the majority!
Tanm, i totally agree with you. Real hip-hop is not all that bling-bling stuff that you watch on tv. Real hip-hop is deeper than that, and real hip-hop doesn't care about your skin color. But hey, tik, maybe you're right, but i think black people don't want the industry to create the "Elvis presley" of rap, you know what i mean!

Music knows no race, whether you are white, black or blue. If you can sing and reach out to your crowd then well and good, but if not then you have no business being in the industry. Eminem is white but he's got his style and people like that.
Music/rap is all about reaching out to your crowd and giving them what they want.

MC Search! Took me a while to remember that. Actually had to dig up some old 3rd Base mp3s to jog my memory.

Many rappers these days are mostly Africans & they have great rapping talent , but that doesn't discourage the Americans, etc from entering the world of rap music if they also have rapping talent.

Hi!
I think that it all depends on the choices and the type of person you are because some people think that rap music is racist without even having a reason behind it. Some people think that it's hard to be a rapper now if you aren't black may be because there are a lot blacks in that field but we can't call it racism right? I think that there isn't a lot of racism in music but people make a big deal out of it. All you need to be a singer the courage, confidence and talent which won't let you down. There is nothing wrong in trying so try once and keep trying until you reach you goal. A great example would be Eminem, a guy who didn't care about people and just stepped in that field and guess what? Today he is one of the top rapper.
Thanks, I hope it helps you!

Your sort of right and im from the school that is working with you-samuel hearne. Emeninem being the only white rapper has discouraged many individuals. not that emeninem has gave them a bad name or anything.

Music has never been racist

I guess its what exactly you get from listening to rap music that seems to over ride the true meaning of the music or lyrics.I mean almost all of the rap music I have listened to has alot of plight being brought to the general public.Save for the swear words,I think I havent heard any racist lyrics.By the way if you listened to Eminem's 'I AM' you find that it is the white people who simply want to bring down rap and had to down play him but,He made it. How did rap start is what you should ask yourself. It stated way back as a way of the Black Panthers echeoing their problem. So racism depends on how you want to judge the song. But I insist that rap music is fine.

In SA we have a white rapper called Legoa (his name means whitie), he is Afrikaans and raps in Sotho ( a black language)and black people love him more than some other black artists. He is brilliant just by the way
