The women that are in music videos
May 1, 2004 - 05:46 AM

I am disapointed when I trun on many many music videos on my tv. Many women are dressing and acting very inaproprit. I don't agree with women being put in front of millions dressed and acting like this. This is not respecting yourself or your body.

What do you think???????

I don't agree.

I don't think I agree. This is all part of the fashion and buisness world. These are all gimmicks. The people who listen to videos aren't just all about listening to the music or the words of the song. They want to see too. This is a popularity contest ae well. That's why shows like American Idol and Canadian Idol are shows that get aired on T.V., not on the radio. As well I think that this is up to the singer how they want to dress and if they want to show off skin. That is also why shows are rated PG (PARENTAL GUIDANCE) or E (EVERYBODY).

First of all, American Idol is not a show where the contestents are dressing in bras and underware. These people are "covered". So that has nothing to do with the topic.
Seconly I don't think you can say that its for popularity compleatly. This is because it's not like the artist are making much money off of the video itself, but more so the cd sales.
But the main point I am trying to get to, is that women should not be displayed in these conditions on tv. I am not arguing why it is happening, but more so if it should be happening.

Should not? WE are not supposed to ban things based on "morality". dont moralize ok? This is personaly freedom, and as such it is a basic human right. I respect any women and i never call any woman a "slut" if she is not covered up or something. Respect all - unconditionally ! (As told in Codex).

I have a problem with telling people that they shouldn't dress a certain way so that they can respect themselves. Isn't really saying that you should cover up and be more modest (aka ashamed) of yourself. Of course this is the penalty of freedom, let people do what they want and some of the things they do might not be approved of by you.

Antoine, no matter how we try to tell people how important is the freedom of Individual, people wont listen to us, only then they will, after they will suffer.

Womens freedom enables true freedom of men as well (everything is interconnected on multiple levels)

I dont differ women by everything. If i am being respected by Her, no matter how her outer looks are, She will receive my support, together with respect. All women deserve nice, polite treatment, either from Men or from fellow Women. If we handle things this way, no problem would ever occur.

We cannot posses or control another human being in any condition. No is no. We agree to be together and share good things together. Thats all what we agree on - to be together and support one another. WE CANNOT agree on limiting our rights and freedoms and our Individual independence - never ! They are never a endangering factor in proper community.

It is not enough to declare yourself free. You also need to be part of an community which allows you to be free as well.
Not words, the reality shows what community is freedom enabling and who is the person allowing you the freedom.

Ave Futuria. Freedom ! Equality ! Progress !

I think it is all about being equal - if a woman is half naked on a music video targeted at men, a man should half naked on a music video targeted at women. But that doesn't seem to happen. I also don't think people should judge the women on the video's - they are being told what to wear - they are just doing their job to make money.

I think everyone who has posted, has made a strong argument. But you really have to think about the things being put on national tv these days, things being watched by people of all ages. I don't feel comfortable knowing that my litle 2 year old sister (who knows how to use the remote controll) can easily veiw half naked women dancing. This scares me

The women in music videos reveal too much skin. I just did media study this year and my class analyzed that women wear tight clothing, are posed in weird actions and reveal too much skin. Women in videos are always making the males look good by dancing around them(inappropriate dancing)

I guess problem is not in ladies being dressed this or that way in music videos.

Problem is in guys, which behave differently than i do.

If i see naked women i say Hello , how r u (and have a million dollar smilesmile if i see and woman wearing headcover i say Hello, how r u.

Other guys would drool when seeing naked women and be talking perversive words to her, and when seeing woman covered up totally also be very impolite.

Did i state a good point?

Just be nice to eachother. If not, then ignore eachother.

I don't think this is an equality issue, I can think of lots of guys who would jump at the chance to do this. It has to do with the wants of the target market not equality, do women want that nessasarilly. Some obviously do as there are lots of guys in music videos these days who walk around conviently lacking shirts, but not to the same extent as females obviously.

I agree with you, mystikaleyez!

They are terrible example for the youth to follow around the world. I have one word to describe them: disgusting!

Kaiser,

If we are going to ignore morality when dealing with each other, then we'd better live like animals in the jungle.

Morality has everything to do with it
November 11, 2004 - 06:17 AM

"Palestinian" made an excellent point. The provocative dress women wear in most modern music videos are a horrible example for young women. Very few people that have a daughter would want them to learn to use their sexuality to gain wealth...this is a form of prostitution.

Also morality has everything to do with this conversation. Everyone on this earth has moral views on things, or simply put everyone thinks certain things are right and certain things are wrong. Kaiser’s assertion that we should not "moralize" is absurd for even the attempt to negate morality is a moral stance (i.e. amorality or the absence of morals) However, I doubt that Kaiser really feels this way. I would like to see what would have happened if the world would have taken Kaiser's advice to "Live and let live" when Hitler sensuously murdered millions. Just like anyone else I am almost certain Kaiser believes that there are certain things that are wrong. The logical conclusion of your beliefs espoused in this discussion was brilliantly summed up with Palestinians comments, "If we are going to ignore morality when dealing with each other, then we'd better live like animals in the jungle."
