I think the amount of sexism in music is not good because that may ruin the careers of the superstars involved in this kind of stuff.

I think that sexism in music is a really big thing. You would only see males look good because women are dancing around them. Women are like sex symbols in music videos.

Also, it shows that men are the leaders etc. Men always have the important part. Whatever is represented in the music videos affects the people watching it. If the videos show men are the head etc, the people will think that too.

sexism in music vidieos isnt fair!

The main Hollywood Motto is "sex sells" .. which is why they have 200 naked girls per guy in a vidieo... ( ok i might have exaggerated that a little bit)... but my point is... they all do it in the name of making money . Most of these artists seem to care less about what they are teaching thier audiences which in most cases happens to be kids and young adult. Those young adults are tommorows futures and seeing these types of images of women doesnt put a posetive perspective in their minds at all.
Also, these portrayls of women in music vidieos are really degrading to women's self identity because it gives more power to the men who are doing it. it shows that the men have the money so women will do anything to get it. Dont get me wrong there are very succesfull women in the industry who happen to have male Groupies around them lined up. however, i believe it is percepted differently when the men do it and women do it. when men do it, it is considered in such terms "cool"... and it's not in any sense bad because of societies perception of men. in addition there is far less men being treated as sexual objects than women.
to conclude , media's portrayl of women is not fair in any sense. there is no positive outcome from it ..except that of money ...which the women in the vidieo's hardly get a taste of.

It's not only disgusting that half-naked women are used to get attention from fans, it's pathetic. Any musician that has to resort to exploiting sex just to get noticed probably doesn't have much talent to begin with. I saw an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow about sex in videos and she said it perfectly. She said it's "so the obvious way to go." Telling a bunch of women to dance around a rap artist requires no creativity.
I see all these generic music videos with 50 women dancing around, every one of them looking like the same person, and I think "what has this world come to?" Why did all the good original music stop coming out in our generation? And why do those women dance around in their underwear on tv? Do they think they're getting noticed? I don't remember the face of a single woman I've seen in a video unless she's the musician. And the people that do remember their faces probably just think of them as skanky girls that are desperate for attention. We can't just blame the public view of women on the musicians. The chicks in the videos are responsible too.

The Music industry lost its touch after the early 70's because after Vietnam American mucisians didn't have an issue to rally around.
Back then politics was a part of most music - guys like Bob Dylan made their whole careers that way and people expected substance - people listened to substance - not fluff and style.
You see before mucisians controlled the biz - they were the talent and they wrote the songs - there are still guys like Coldplay who do this - but now the Execs run it - and their philosophy is to have the most universal appeal possible - that means no politics - because then you risk offending people.
Think about the fact the Iraq war has not led to one political song in the popular forum.
Frankly I don't think you can blame the decline of American music on the mucisians - there are still very talented mucisians out there - they are simply not listened too.
I think much of the blame goes to the modern consumer - both in America and in the wider world audience which is also HEAVILY considered by Music execs.
I was listening to Jay-Z talk about how no one liked his first album because it was too intelligent - so he made an effort to dumb down his second and it was a huge success - really pitiful isn't it?
I agree that just having some "honeys" dance around is pure fluff -
But the other reason is as follows - In the 60's and 70's the music industry was targeted towards college kids and young adults.
But with the recent increase in descretionary spending money given to teeni-boppers - ie 13 and 14 year olds -
they are buying most of the music and so the music industry is now creating for 13 year olds instead of 23 year olds - Brittany Spears is the perfect example.
teeni-boppers are generally not interested in the larger issues -
- and you get VERY diffeent music when you are writing for 7th graders and colloge kids.
