[Poll] racism in Movies
April 28, 2004 - 11:18 AM

Do you think that Movie is racist? How do movies contribute to racism? Why are most of the actor/actress or models white?

r.e.racism in movies?
April 28, 2004 - 01:30 AM

Sometimes movies can be racist but they ususually tend to take place a long time ago. See, the other day, I was flipping through the channels and a black and white movie was on.(It was probably made in the 70's or something.) It had a little bit of racism in it as it showed that slaves were still being used. They also did not show the good type of slave keeping(that is if there was any). The movie viewed black people as being dirty and uncivilized which was totally untrue.I guess back then movie producers or whoever did not realize what rasism was. Even if they did, they might have thought that the people viewing the movie might not understand how racist they were being. Nowadays, peopole can't have any racism in their movies for people know what it is. And if they do, it's usually in religon bases movies. (I'm not so sure about that. I just heard it from someone.)

I dont belive movies are racisist now or then because if you think about it dont just lok at skin colour look at were these people are from. They are all multicultured so I dont know how people are saying its racist just because they are white it doesn't mean that they are racisit. On the modle one I will have to agree with you because back then they only did use white models.

No,movies aren't racist. The colour of the actors depend on where the movie takes place and who wants to do the movie. That doesn't mean they pick a certain colour just cause one colour may not be suitable for the movie. This is only my opinion.

My opinion
April 29, 2004 - 11:20 AM

In my opinion, i think that some movies are racist because of the variaties of different colours of people's skin. Some moveis are only pure colour while others have different coloured skins.

If you think about it...
May 4, 2004 - 09:09 AM

If you acutually think about it, it's really hard to make a movie that's not what people considered "racisit". To be non-rasisit, there has to be actors/actresses of different race. It's really hard to get a bunch of people who have different race, culture, language, beliefs to work together. When you consider race, you'll have to consider then whole culture that come with it. How people look at things, that's how you can get somebody to listen to you. If you have a different view, there's going to be a lot of explaining for you to do.

I think there is still racism in media but it is decreasing. That is because people know more about other cultures and respect them more. Espescially in a city like mine(toronto) where you are constantly working with or asociating with different races.

You can see alot of racism if you are observant. think about how in alot of movies the good guy is almost never black? how blacks are usually portrayed as bad guys? like LOTR?(lord of the rings) yes? yes? I know that YOU know I'm right

I think that there is still racism in movies. In alot of movies you only see people of one race and in my opinion i disagree with racism in movies. I think it may have decreased, but still I don't think there should be racism any where. That is my opinion.
