tech gap

Me, being in an urban area and having some relatively high tech equipment (2.4ghz P4 and 512 sdram...etc.) I can't really picture myself in an envrionment with little technology. No tv, maybe no phones, no music, barely anything. Can anyone who's been in a rual environment tell me what it's like??

Technology

Garfield,
I found living with out much technology fantastic. I lived with out TV for more than half my life and it was great, instead of watching it I as a child had a very healthy and active childhood, I learnt alot more survival skills and spent my time doing physical activity and therefore never had a weight problem.
My live was full of so many other thing that children who live amongst technology would have never experienced, but that is true for people who live in rural and remote areas compared to people who live in urban areas.
I have never been with out a telephone, but I would love a break from people ringing me up all the time hassleing me.

Like Garfield, I also always lived with a lot of high tech equipment. I have a few friends that live further out into the country and a few of them do not own a tv. I know they've found it hard to be included sometimes because so much of everyone else's lifestyle (including mine) involves shows on tv. They've often felt like outsiders whenever tv came up at school. I would have been thankful later on in life if I had of grown up without tv, but I'm sure that the sense of missing something important would have made me complain to my parents while growing up. Even now I mostly feel like tv is wasting my time, but so much of our society refers to popular tv that I feel out of the loop if I miss shows. Jess, was everyone in your community tv-free?

My life revolves around tech. I do tech support and have computers and a laptop and network at home. I have a cell phone but not a PDA. When I started college I didn't even own a tv much less anything else! I actually miss those days. My girlfried and I would go to the beach or park often and just spend real time together. With tech remember we work to live not live to work...unplug every once in a while! Especially you gamers out there!!! hehe

No i could not last a day without ability to at least reach modern tech, unless able to posess it in wild.
I'd buy portable pc, portable this and that, powered by solar power and stored by high perforrmance batteries.

I'd get used to the no technology thing, but I still wouldn't be able to last 30 seconds in the wild! I just don't have the know-how to live off of "the sun wind trees and stars"

i live in a great area and the foot of the pennines - it's a hill range which runs the length of northan england up to scotland.
I'm 20 minutes by train from manchester on of the best cities in england and 20 minutes walk from the middle of nowhere - it's a good balance

When you live in Canada,
few people can live without tech.
I could live without TV
but
I can't live without my Comp

I could live without tv too as long as I could get Star Trek Enterprise "beamed over" so I could watch it over the Internet...without waiting that is! I know I can download episodes later from Kazaa but that's undependable at best! Live Long and Prosper.
