Impact of foreign products on your culture?
April 12, 2004 - 01:48 AM

Hi everyone! I work at a non-profit organization that is developing an educational program for teenagers in the U.S. and am interested in your responses to the following questions. I’d like to use your responses in stories about the impact of corporations and products on other cultures and languages. If you wouldn't mind taking a few minutes to write back, I'd appreciate it!

1. Has globalization brought new products into your culture? What impact has this had on your culture? On your standard of living?

2. Which foreign companies have had the most impact on your culture and language? Which products?

3. What effects, positive and negative, have the companies and products had on your culture? Please give examples.

4. Have foreign companies and products had any influence on your language? How?

Please fill out the following information:

Mc Donalds send our cuisine to history with its fast food principles. Not that out cuisine was so good, but Mc Donalds sux.

It also changed the pace of life. Fast eating, fast living. Relaxation got really a value today. More stress, less fun.

Our language was affected by american movies with new phrases, which were a bit changed to fit in the language, but they can still be well visible.

yes, but kaiser i think that our language is more "poluted" with south slavic words and also german ones, though nower times less with german ones, than english. about McDonalds , well it is true it had an impact in the cities which have this fast food restaurants, but here in towns like mine where there's no sign of this shit , ppl more go to chinese restaurants if u ask me! but other products sell worse than our home products! do you agree kaiser? cos i mean every slovene rather buys something slovene than imported.

Hm... Yeah a lot of western companies and products have spreaded all over Indonesia... the biggest influence i think are fast foods, clothes, musics, electronics, and... heaps more. I reckon McDonalds is the biggest one... you know it's promising some sort of 'western ifestyle'

Negative ? Well... i think heaps indonesian people still love Indonesian foods, but lots of them just give disgusted look if talking about indonesian traditional clothes or...anything!!!! I mean, lots people think foreign products are much better.... that ireckon yes, in some ways they're much better in quality, but i still appreciate indonesian originality, eyyyy

Positive? you name it. More techonology, higher education quality...

but you know...sometimes i just confuse myself, whether i should live in western lifestyle or not...coz i live in Australia....
