violence in games is good and bad.
its help take away anger as long it does not hurt anyone in the real world.
but it is also bad because it could provoke kids and adults to copy what the see in the games they play

Violence in video games is definitely bad. You may disagree, and say that it’s good for entertaining purposes. But what good is it all, if it just influences people to kill each other. I know youths aren’t dumb, and won’t kill people just because they do it in the game, but it’s true that it really makes you more aggressive as you play and you become less sensitive to violent situations. It tells your mind that it’s alright to pick up guns and kill people, just like that. But still; you can’t blame murders on games, because it’s ultimately up to the buyer to make the decision of purchasing it.

"Some video games appear to be a bad influence on children while others are not. Scientific opinions are fairly divided on this issue however. Some kids play violent games and become violent. Other kids play violent games and don't become more aggressive.(...)One thing is undisputed, however - violent children watch violent movies and play violent video games.
(...)Video games that involve constant hurting and killing of others, and games which give rewards for doing so, run a risk of teaching children either that violence and killing is an acceptable method of problem solving, or that violence is normal. They may also lower a child's empathy levels, so that the child begins to see other human beings as objects to "do" things to, as in a video game, rather than other people with equal rights and feelings. Extremely violent video games are unrealistic - they do not show the pain and suffering of violence, the screaming and crying, the emotional trauma etc., therefore they lie about the reality of violence. Mature users can understand this and are not fooled that just because blowing an alien to pieces is fun in a game, that such things would be fun in real life. But kids are more easily influenced."

That essay summerizes my opinion about violence in video games. It's simply unacceptable.

Violence in Computer Games?...noo
March 27, 2005 - 06:09 AM

IN game world, there are three types of people...
One: Game lovers
Two: Game haters
Three: Game unknown
For the game lovers, I think it's great for their own personal fun but in real life...There could be a problem. For example: I could be a game lover, playing games with violence, having fun, but this is the problem: Maybe even trying the violence...go out and start hitting people, or even more seriously killing people...
For Game Haters, it's obviously no games, but who in the world never ever was violent in a way? Game haters, still have a very extraordinary way...
For Example: I could hate games, never play games, and never look at it. But in real life, you can't live without playing ONE game with violence...am I right?
For Game unknown people who doesn't know any games, who cares? They don't know a thing...
So what i'm trying to say is, Game lovers, it's really bad for violence...I'm not with it.
But, for others, who cares? Just don't be violent...
Get it? smile

Violence as entertainment

Sex sells. So does violence. Who here would want to watch spider-man if it doesn't have any fighting? I know a kid who watches a lot of Dragon Ball Z and he is really violent and hurts other even if he is just "playing".

The original Super Mario had violence (you killed little things you jumped on and you had to beat bosses). It made for good gameplay. How would the game have worked without that little bit of violence?

Does the violence in the game serve a greater purpose? That's up to the person who is buying it and playing it to decide. When I played the game "Hero's Quest" way back in the early 90s I had to kill monsters to gain gold to finish the game so I could be the "hero." Even in games like GTA I'm sure there is some similar aspect.

I think a good question would be: Is it fair for a parent to tell a child they cannot play a video game because of the violence or other content matter in it?

Adults watch guys banging into each other all the time. It's called football here.

Hi guys!
One of the most popular games in the world CS(Counter Strike). This game is much more violent than other because you have to kill terrorists to save map or to save hostages. I think that almost all games don’t make you feel yourself good. That’s just spending a free time. Look around, dear gamers, our world is full of other interesting things.

There are some interesting points being discussed in this forum. However, I would urge everyone to think about these things.

Many military video games can be considered to be promoting violence as an acceptable way of life. This is especially advantageous in a society that is at war with terror.

When this is taken into consideration, there is a marked difference between video games that contain violence, and violent video games (video games that are based on violence and/or violent gameplay)

Any good story has conflict and resolution as a part of the story. In many video games, the conflict may be violent, and the resolution may be romantic. For example, in the Super Mario series, Mario was rescuing the Princess.

The current trend in our society as well as our video games has been the promotion of violence for the sake of violence. It has nothing to do with telling a good story. By convincing our youth that violence is an acceptable way of life, we would then be forced to accept war, terror, and all the atrocities that go with it.

Viloence in computer games in neither good nor bad, it simply is. The judgement attached to it comes only after the consumer or the society questions its morality. However, there are more tangible realities to be questioned by consumers and members of society in the world we live in (which is more violent than a video game can ever be).

won't that make them used to taking out their anger "physically"? what happens when the next time they're angry and there are no computers around?

I personally think violence in video games is a good thing, if used wisely. It can provide a great cathartic experience and can stop children from resorting to real violence. However I do think that the amount of time spent on such video games should be closely controlled to prevent the child from getting overly agressive.

Violence in Video Games...

Well, to some extent violence in video game is bad. However, to some extent it's not. Violent video games are an influence to youth, but I believe a minor influence. Considering that video games outsell movies (Atleast in the US...the video game Industry has more profit than movies). However, this is basically the same argument as, "Does TV violence affect the youth?" and music. Video games does not have as much as an affect on youth as upbringing, enviornment or social traits. A child who grows up in a gang-infested area will have very little oppurtitnes to grow up to be the next president. A child who is well support, given a good education is more likely to succed (Duh). I believe policy makers should be less concerned on whats on the media and more about helping poorer communities and getting rid of crime. Only by doing this could we prompt a better society for tommorrow. Movies, video games and music all have rating systems(or some way) of informing parents about 'dangerous' items. Parents should be able to judge themselves what is best for their children.
