I once missed a major part of school year and instead of making several small exams at a time in school year i had to pass exams stretching from beginning to the end of school. I did much better at test as i usually would.
From my view BIG UP for exams at end.

I wish that educating myself or using online school had been a real option for me instead of high school! There is nothing that I would have liked better. I think that not only could I have learned more, but I could have accomplished lots of other real life stuff thats just as important as all that book learnin'.
I do think there are some students that wouldn't be able to handle those final exams though. Some students need to be reassured and can't take so much pressure riding on one test. I know some students that can hardly take regular unit tests because they get so nervous!
It'd be awful nice if we could choose which kind of school we wanted to go to and the school system would adapt to us...
Anyone out there been home-schooled or any other kind of learning not in school? Did you like it?

I agree with many things said here. Schools will not change unless students at high school and college level get involved in their school curriculum and other decision making.
Students should be allowed to do more independant study papers, research and surveys that are in touch with the real-life issues...more multidisciplinary team work and individual research...to make learning fun and exciting..instead of a chore to make oneself employable in some job. Students must study self-employment and alternative careers in biotech, sciences, arts rather than only academia or bureaucratic jobs.
Self-learning and thinking for yourself is critical in creating a life that you want to live.
Cheers

i'm not home schooled and i think it's better to have your tests distributed on the whole year. because then there's not one big test everything is depending on.
for me, as a very lazy pupil, it would be stressful on the end of the schoolyear.
i'm definitely not satisfied with the educational system in austria but for me home schooling would carry bad consequences.
