Take IT Local

How can we as youth reps and local teams work to take our ideas, visions and goals into our communities? This is a huge challenge and it is something that we will have to work on every day. By using the TIG site and the new TIL site, we can work together to meet these goals!

yes i hear you Damien! i think the hope for TakingITLocal is that it will provide enough resources and helpful tools for those who have access to technology to take their initiatives offline and into their communities, therefore providing opportunities for youth who don't have access to the site.

Dear Damien & TiG,
We are initiating a program called "Refugee Education Sponsorship Program" (RESPECT). Through this program, we are hoping to send educational supplies including computers and software to various refugee schools. Any ideas of others who would be interested in participating in this program? The more schools and young people we can get involved, the more of a difference we can make!
Be well,
Marc

I agree completely with you guys, even though we have over 4000 members in 160 or so countries, but there is still a lot of grounds to cover. I think what we need to do for the next step in go back to the community we are in take the great ideas that we have input online and spread them to the people in our local area face to face, because there are still a lot of people out there who don't have a computer and/or don't know how to use a computer let alone have heard of us before.

I guess your suggestion is a real nice idea and should be implemented at all cost. But a place like my country(Ghana). It's going to be real difficult getting the youth involved in such a thing. Especially when most of them are not computer literate. I'm yet to enter the University and I've a company that deals with computers which includes software development. I'll like to get all the youth involved in taking up such investments instead of using their time for unecessary things.
Got to but will surely contribute more on this.

I'll manage and get you some schools and groups who might need your assistance in their work to improve the life of all. There are already some schools who have taken the initiative in IT and I think helping them to be worth a great deal. I also think your group can also be introduced into our schools to form a sort of international organisation with one goal. I think the aim of TIG should be realised everywhere.
I'll get to you later.

what IT is.

Vanessa.
While the diversity of our little online community is so great, and is powerful enough to inspire awe into nearly everyone who is lucky enough to experience it. The question emerges in the form of, while a teams interpretation of what *it* can be - just where are the boundaries?
Personally id like to see just a couple of goals that TIG wants to achieve as a global network of young people be put forward and attempted, while still supporting a youth rep/team's local goals.
Perhaps those global network goals would be something like improving tig's openness to global input - through reviving the Global Youth Advisory Team initiative - or something else entirely different.
Regardless, something does need to be done; im just not entirely sure what.

Hi I'm going to attempt to take it local in my area! I have had this idea for about a month now but did not know how to put it into action. Then i found this web site became a member, and now i'm going to attempt to get the kids and adults in this community involved in taking it local in our area! My community does not have many activities for childern to attend, I want to work on the and getting childern involved in speaking out in our community about important issues. I also want to set up a yearly awards system where kids are awarded for the good things they do in our community. I'm very excited aboout gettting this started. I'm starting out with doing a workshop to introduce eveything to the community and take it from there!!! Lori

Since this discussion was posted in 2001, how do members of TIG think we could or have Take IT Local, if we haven't already? Do you feel there are ways that we could increase the importance of TakingITGlobal at local levels.
