cultural value of water

I'm compiling a book on the value of water to different cultures of the world for my institution (IHE, Delft NL).
Can you give me what water is in your culture and some famous quotes on water from your culture. For example, I'm from Yoruba in Nigeria, and there's this saying that, 'omi labuwe omi labumi, enikan ki ma i bomi sota o' that is, it is water that we take to bath, it is water that we take to drink, no one dare take enmity with water. Water is also worshipped with the belief that the goddess can bless one...
Can somebody help out and give me hints about his/her culture's attitude to water?
Thanks

Without water there can not be any life; and without life, there can't be any culture.

water is the base of civilization any where around the world with out water theres no life. any culture needs water and the water i drink tastes like crap because its from the st lawrence river and something to do with muscles on ships makes it taste like dirt in the summer...
so water is the life giver and the thing we can't live without life requires water and water requires life
