Popular Culture and Rural Living

Do shows like "The Simple Life" and "Pioneer Quest" glamorize or satirize rural living? Media portrays rural living in different cultures to be different things. In North America there is a nostalgic view with a 'quaintness', but other cultures are treated as backwaters and behind the times. How do we treat rural living fairly through popular media?

If they portrayed rural life accurately, you would find it full of surprises. Drugs, alcohol and sex are normally the social events in rural areas. It is easy to find a place to go without getting caught. So much land and so few eyes that care. It wouldn't really change the content of television. It would just go with the follow.
Kids are no more different in urban cities than rural areas. Sex, drugs and alcohol are part of each area's daily agenda.

I find that TV somehow fails as a medium to accurately and fairly portray life in a rural area (not that it does justice to urban living either). It is just that television is better at representing cities, their speed (traffic, people on subways), vivid technicolour lighting (billboards, ads)and diversity (people, language, culture).
If you're sick of hollywood portrayals of urban or rural life and are looking for a really different 'on screen' experience with an interesting take on rural living I suggest that people check out some of the excellent Iranian movies that are increasing in popularity. Try, 'Colour of Pardise', 'A Time for Drunken Horses' or 'Gabbeh'. I can't speak to their accuracy as I've never been to Iran, but the film making is excellent and the stories rural and compelling.

Rural to Urban T.V. setting

I find that T.V. is used by corporations to try to sell people products such as news and cheap sitcoms. Since it seems that T.V. seemed to have replaced the fire place the place of human group gathering.

Once there was on Oprah show (YES!!) a talk, how one american family - finnacially sucessfull as usual (?), got into africa, i think kenyan tribesmen envoronment in order to live there for some time... two weeks.
Whole situation shown was quite interesting. "where are we going to wash ourselves in the morning" "where is the water" etc...
But at end american family was relaxed and tried to invite natives to America.
I assume it is harder for such native to get used to live in a metropolis, even with best schooling, than for metropolis resident to get used of living in wild.

errmm...when it comes to my nation...our media seems got no differences..all they wanted to do is just gain highest rating and earn much more profit....and also they love to copycat others nation show....
but what makes me really impressed about them is they are really willing to help to develop the nation especially on youth development.....
