Job Outsourcing?
March 28, 2004 - 01:36 AM

Well, back here in India the BPO sector (business process outsourcing) firms have sprung up in every nook and corner.
I wonder what is the reaction of an average foreigner (in the sense from whose country these jobs have come).
Also i am planning to start up a BPO project myself. Working it out with some consultants who say they can get me a project from the US to work on (to be precise, a bank checque processing thing).

Any ideas, any more leads, pls tell me.

I applaud India's ability to put so many people to work in this sector. I am an IT support person who works for state level government. My job isn't at risk to outsourcing right now. Some managers have suggested it but have been shot down pretty quick. I have met some of my users who are spread out all over the state and I feel that an analyst in another country could do the job but would only be able to do so much. We have a close relationship with field support techs (I work on Helpdesk) and this would not be as streamlined if we were separated by distance. I actually do personally service people in my technology building on occasion (some are Indian programmers!) but not often enough. I like getting my hands dirty!
I stated this in another post: I feel like most US IT people treat their jobs in lower-level support with disdain and are only there so they can get enough experience to move into a better job. The effect of this is that you end up with people in these positions who either don't care about service or really aren't well trained/experienced and can't get work elsewhere. That's one reason why managers in the US will outsource because on a fundamental level Indian IT people have a better foundation (I've read about ITT).

Best of luck in your endeavor!

Well...
You have a serious problem! In my opinion, you shouldn't really trust any people at your bussiness. You should think of your own solution.

I think you will make a better decision than any other people at your work.

Another thing, don't go on telling your problems to everyone, they might think of giving you the wrong ideas!

I wonder what is the reaction of an average foreigner Well as a foreigner to you (I live in Canada) I can honestly say I don't like the amount of work that's being shipped overseas, but I don't blame any of the people of the more underdeveloped countries.

I do however blame the large multinational corporations that want to cut every cost they can and put it into advertising.

Large companies like Nike, Wal-Mart, GAP and General Moters have all cut countless jobs here in North America and have decided to use cheap labour from lower income countries, and most of the time they do so in an export proesccing zone so their saving even more money.

The thing I don't like about this, besides the fact that there aren't as many jobs here as there were back in the day, is that they take all this money their saving, and put it into advertising trying to sell us products and services.

What really ticks me off about this is that the same companies lower worker pay and cut jobs making it even harder for people to buy the products and services their having shoved down their necks via advertising.

P.S. Good luck with your cheque idea

Never do business with Sunsoftwares

Never do business with Sunsoftwares

What they do, is they tell you all the time the project is taking longer. And at the end they do not give you the product you payed for. It was a project of around 6 weeks, now it took 6 months, and what I got was still very badly.

When your at Odesk, and using the services of Sunsoftwares, change it as soon you can, because you will not receive what you payed for.

To be honest, I think they are realy stealing from me! And as advice. Do not do business with sun-softwares.com!

What the outsourcing is? - hiring much people for less salaries. Somethimes the quality of the outsourcing is bad, but the compamies don't care. The are looking only for profit.

I am a person that works in the online market and I must say, people are really confused with it. Many are complaining about all the work being outsourced overseas, and I see this happening because they are the ones willing to work hard for minimal amounts of money, compared to people located in the US & Canada.

I myself am located in Canada and haven't had any problem getting jobs as a decent rate, but that is also because I stand firm with what I want to make and what my work is worth. Outsourcing may be a lot easier for many larger businesses and in the end it will work out to be cheaper.

Outsourcing is a great option for every business, and in the end we'll help the economy, whether it is right here at home or overseas. Everyone needs to work and no one is putting others out of business, you are just not working hard enough to stay in business like others are.

Job outsourcing is a sticky question. I think it's great that people who would not otherwise have stable jobs in some nations now can. These people need a source of income and a career.
However, as a future employee in a nation whose major corporations outsource many jobs each year, I don't like outsourcing. Unemployment is too high right now. If we had more jobs available than employees available, I would support job outsourcing. Also, American (and, I'm sure, other nations') companies tend to exploit workers in their outsourced jobs. From what I have read, they often take an extremely close-minded and often racist point of view, deciding that people from developing nations are not as bright as those from developed nations. However, this is not true. For these reasons, I disapprove of outsourcing, although I am glad that these people have a source of regular income.

Well, in terms of reactions to job outsourcing, I think it's one of the prime examples of globalization. It's helping the country where the jobs are being outsourced too, as well as the original country because it makes product more efficient. Later on, I think all jobs will utilize a globalized labor force in some way to increase efficiency. Many though have cast job outsourcing in a negative light, and I don't blame them. People view it as taking away jobs, such as in the US, where the economy recently is still at one of its lower points and the unemployment rate remains high. But I feel job outsourcing will be beneficial in the long run because it makes the economy more efficient (with an increased labor force) and lets our own people (or wherever country the jobs are coming from) concenrate on geting higher paying jobs, like manager and executive positions.
