History of something..
April 3, 2002 - 09:47 AM

that everyone does and loves.

The KIsS

I was like half asleep this morning getting out of bed.
And saw this beautiful couple kissing a beautiful kiss on TV.Just like flash in my mind : anyone knows the history of kiss?
Is just everyone does and loves wink..something human and Beeeaautifuuul...
Have no answer. But made a guess ; our ancestors lived in caves rite, ate raw meat and fruit blabla..so probabaly when they lived and ate that way they licked one another(the ways those lovely Cheetahs still do)...Then when they became more brainy, they started to express their feelings to one another and developed the art of kissing.
Just my guess...
Anyone? Any idea?

Watch the birds for clues as to why we like kissing.
After mothers milk the next foods had to be pre-chewed for baby. Passed on from usually mothers lips.
Watch our nearest relatives, apes... they do what we should still be doing. Ya, we know we have processors now and sanitized factory jared "foods".
Other then that it has been called "our revealed sex organ". Changes colour and size when arousal takes place. Why do you think some cultures have to hide them? Womens that is.
Besides, kissing is just plain old fun.
Kissing your pet rock is cold though!

No do not have one, never did.

that is a long (B................l...)

another theory
April 3, 2002 - 11:30 AM

so you're saying that kissing originated from grooming practices like what monkeys and other animals still do today? and since all animals are playful, people began to rationalize foreplay and (kissing) was just a part of that.
that's a really interesting hypothesis.
i'm thinking that it may be a combination of what you said and the theory below:

http://www.cybergrrl.com/fs.jhtml?/views/guides/love/art001/

it says that kissing originated from the transfer of food from a mother's to baby's mouth. (i bet Freudians get a kick out of explaining this)

Are you ready for the truth ?

Okay, kissing - as we know it, was "discovered" by Romans. When men returned home, they used to stick their tongues into their women's mouths, to find out if the woman had drunk wine or not. However, I don't know why they were so keen on knowing that.
So kissing was "invented" by the same people who had discovered that disgusting vomitario thing I mentioned in my update.

I think that sounds right...

Im not too sure about where that started, but Im pretty sure the conception of the idea for "the kiss" had to be primal. Animal almost. Like take this...

A dog isn't taught how to bark at strangers, it just knows from instinct. I think that expression was formed very very long ago, and it has taken all this evolution to come to us as an instinct. On of the most basic forms of expression, expressing love and maintaining it to the one person that we are with. It is definately a good question. Another question you may want to ask yourself is.. If we have evolved to learn that kissing is natural and instinctive... what comes next? What else will become instinctive for us in our far future? Computers? Will every human being born have the ability to operate a computer? Or know the basic ideas?

Its a shame that we will not be able to see this happen, knowing this life is like knowing someone when you were kids, and then drifting away from it and coming back and meeting up in the future, and seeing how much they have changed. The difference that this world will see in even one hundred years will be substantial.

I look forward to it.

M.T
u got a cool theory there but i did not know Romans women used to drink so much when their husbands away..That might be a rite theory but i think the history of the kiss was even longer before Roman knows how to make WINE to drink..so i m still stick to the mouth feeding licking theory.

Spadrick

? Computers? Will every human being born have the ability to operate a computer

Well no i dont think thats gonna happen or i would hope its not gonna happen.TRue it d be interesting to know how the future is like... and oneday those future kids will come back and discover stuff " hisotry of things" like we are doing now. This really link me to the idea that we are shaping a history. But which part of this history will remain until many next generation and which part will be known on future kids' history books only.I m also thinking if some thousands year how our kid's kid'ds kid.. will be like. Will they exist or not event. And if they exist will they have different identities like we do now or not...

Kissing 2
April 12, 2002 - 01:21 AM

Well, that is not "my" theory. I read it somewhere. You're right, people surely used to lick one each other sooner than
that Roman invented their thing. But, as far as I know, chimps do not lick each other. You know, we are not cheetahs, and there is no real need to lick each other very often. Also, for example Eskimos do not kiss each other at all. So not all human beings know what is a kiss. Eskimos use their noses instead of mouths. I aslo wonder if all African tribes use what we call "the traditional way of kissing". I'm not sure if the origin of kissing is any objective reason (like exchanging of chewed food - like birds do). But I am not a kissologist smile
