International Youth Parliament - Please Assist
March 11, 2004 - 04:30 AM

I am from a country which can do so much to develop the society and change the standard of living among our people, but it is so sad that the government is not willing to help those who are committing themselves to lend a helping hand in bringing change in South Africa. Some of you might be aware that I am a member of an organisation comprised of mainly tertiary students and unemployed graduates. We have been involved in quite a number of projects like HIV/AIDS, school learners mentoring and carrer advisement as well youth recreation. But not once have we received any government assistance or support.

I have been selected for the next sitting of the International Youth Parliament 2004. I received a scholarship that covers most of the expenses and 40% of my flight costs to get me to Sydney and I am grateful. But because I am from the rural areas and due to high levels of poverty in my region its very difficult to raise funds for such an event.
But I approached many goverment agencies requesting assistance of US$900 to get me to Sydney in July and none of them are able to help because they do not sponsor individuals or this event will not benefit the society they say.
How are we as young people suppose to lend a helping hand and bring change when our governments are not willing to support us?
Please request anybody who knows where I can get a scholarship from to please contact me on Khothatso@dotmail.co.za or send me the detail via our website http://www.freewebs.com/fufudo/contactus.htm

I know that there many people who are willing to help and who cares about the development and the improvement of people's standard of living. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards
