[Poll] More People Needed
March 10, 2004 - 08:29 AM

I need more people to get involved in my project. I only have two people. I need ideas, and other things to get started, so if you are interested, or have ideas go to www.takingitglobal.org/YouthRespect

Well, I think I might want to help but I want to make sure you aren't in left field.

I think adults in the US haven't gone out of their way to make sure we know how to be good and better citizens of our country. Shouldn't government schools be responsible for teaching us to be good citizens in our country? They don't teach us to think and decide for ourselves. They don't show a correlation between volunteering and public policies.

This is the reason I started Young Politicians of America at my university (you can start one in high school too). It requires one volunteer service a month and a debate and discussion on public policies relating to our community service activity. It demonstrates how to be a better citizen by actually doing something.

Adults generally act as if kids don't care and don't want to know how to be a citizen. This like a death sentence for our country. Adults shouldn't let kids get that way in the first place. They should be starting to teach kids at a young age. Adults are also in fault because they aren't being good examples. Very few adults are involved in our community. They rarely vote at the local level and know little of what policies are being made in their community. How are kids suppose to care and know, when adults don't show they care and know.

I do believe though that kids are too often preoccupied with the opposite sex, sex, pot, alcohol, and their social life. This is also partly the adults fault, but we younger people need to change are priorties by changing who we admire.

I think I could be a great help as long as your plan is not to attack adults but to inform them. Right now to me you seem a little hostile to adults. I would rather take an approach that is a little more peaceful and more productive. I might be wrong, so let me know.

Dear Friends,
it is apparent that we all write 'posts' because we care about the general well being of our world.I strongly believe we the youth are been ignored.
The point I driving home is that ,we the youths of today whom our parents claim are the leaders of tomorrow do not have a strong say in how we want our future to be.
We all must come together to tell our parents we want a say that will only be heard but put into motion.
We want our future fashioned the we want it and not the way our parents think it must be for us.
I will very much like to help with this project just that I have realised the project is for only those in the U.S and Canada but I am an African from Ghana.....am I excluded?
I really have great ideas.
God bless our world and God bless we the youth of today!

No, you are not excluded because you live in Africa...I will actually change that, and make sure it doesn't discourage anyone. Thank you for your interest, your post was helpful, and I am glad to see more peopple are getting involved, and want to help get this project going!
