what stops people from becoming entrepreneurs

Hi!
I joined this forum today and went through some of the posts. I hope to stay connected fairly regularly.
I am from India. I work as a student trainer, facilitating students to develop soft skills and communication skills.
One of my activities is to help students plan their career. Most of the students I get to meet are undergrads or grads doing their engineering or business management courses. Almost always I find that students prefer to work for a company throughout their life ....very few think of starting an enterprise ever.
Through my counselling sessions I have gathered that risk-taking attitude is a rarity here. Besides that innovative thinking is hardly developed or even thought to be of importance in the usual curriculum. Thats the case t least in the group I am working with. This made me think about the personal qualities which differentiate an enterpreneur from others. I am not talking of knowledge realated things, but more basic qualities that can predispose a person towards entrepreneurship.
Any has an experience to share?
Thanks
Soma

The main reason for less enterpreunorship is:
Uncerteanity of contracts, lack of guarantees. From country, buisness partners etc.
After that a major obstacle is limited knowledge and alck of solidarity with one another. "KNIFE EDGE competition".

I think one of the major reasons that many people do not become entrepreneural is lack of funds. Most people cannot afford the risk of their company failing and certainly cannot afford the start-up costs or do not have the funds to support their business while it loses money for the first few months.

I agree lack of funds is one thing that prevents poor people from becoming entreprenurial! Poor people cannot get loans without collateral. Entrepreneurs come from all backgrounds of race, gender and education level.
Quite a few successful entrepreneurs even in United States are college or school drop-outs even illiterate (cannot write and can barely read). The experience of grameen bank in bangladesh shows that annual loans of $100 or less without collateral can bring poor families above poverty level.
Middle class is afflicted by cultural and educational conditioning in India...business is for people who have no higher education. People seek the comfort of regular paying jobs after years of brain-washing. Education prepares us for employment and not self-employment. People even chose their field of study based on employment market.
