Who knows Lapons?

I read some amazing articles about indigenous europeans from the nordic side of Europe (Norway - Finland - Sweden and Russia) that are well-Known as "Lapons" or "Lapon-Samis" (Around 90,000 Lapons in Sweden.)
They are white Indigenous people (Nomads) that lives in native communities with their own traditions and who suffer also the intolerance and apartheid of modern world...
Perhaps some Nordic TIG member can help us to know more about this nice culture and people... Who knows more about this fascinating culture and people?

Actually if you go to the main theme page of Indigenous Peoples, the Sami people are featured on the flash map. If you click on the little figure of a Sami person on the map, more information will come up.
Also, it is interesting to not that the term Lapp is no longer used. Why is the term Sámi used instead of Lapps? One reason I found was that the term "Lapp" means a patch of cloth for mending, thus the name suggests that the Sámi are wearing patched clothes, a derogatory term and one that needs to be replaced. Hope you find the info on the map helpful.
Cheers!

Hi again Melina!
I found the map... So wonderful and I serched Sami's info, but unfortunately TIG didn't include in the South America area an important indigenous group: The "Quechua" people around 4 million of Quechua's in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Argentina... "Inca's" were descendants of the branch of "Quechuas" people... Perhaps you won't use that name, because a french web site patented the trede mark "Quechua" for mountain equipmment... Ohhhhh international laws...so if you will type quechua.com a french site will be on your screen instead of a peruvian one...

Yeah Matic... I think more of our responces are in our ancient cultures... I think indigenous or people that lives in harmony with nature (as farmers) have the knowledge and a different vision of Planet Earth than citizens...
Nowadays lot of us need to learn more about nature and the traditions of natives communities, because they are the guardians of our past and future...
They take care their valuable know-how from modern world voracity...

yes, the Sami people are really good, how they care about the nature and so. though i do think that the Scandic countries should pay more attention to them , as their culture, language is sooo rare!
