Thumbs: Key fingers for online youth

It interesting how IT devices, such as cell phones and messeging tools, can change more than just the way we communicate! Reuters has researched the "physical mutation" of thumbs in people under the age of 25. CNN writes that "thumbs...have taken over as the hand's most dexterous digit." This strange, yet some how, enlightening article can be found at CNN - Sci-tech.

Within the "hype" of all these fun and convenient tech toys, we often forget about how it may effect our health. Use this thread to bring awareness on how technology, can both hinder, and help our bodies, spirit, and mind.

To live well, we must achieve balance! smile

Balance and Consciousness

You raise an interesting issue on achieving balance. Technologies always contain tradeoffs. There is no free ride when it comes to technological advances. What are we willing to give up to have the benefits of a particular technology? What are we willing to give up to AVOID using a particular technology?

Even the pursuit of raw scientiic knowledge can have consciouness-altering results (e.g., evolution, quantum physics, chaos theory). We live in a different world not just from the physical and environmental effects of our science and technology, but from the new perspectives these discoveries engender.

There was an interesting article in the Spring 2002 Development Outlook magainze on "African Teenagers Battle HIV/AIDS through ICT". See http://www1.worldbank.org/devoutreach/article.asp?id=160
