Just now I found out that on the profiles, the"countries visited",Hongkong is also listed.Everyone knows that H.K.has returned to China since July 1st,1997.I recommend that should be changed in to "places visited!!
A not very pleased

One country two systems right?
I agree with you, more in terms of non-consistency in the way the 'countries' are being listed or not listed, than by the fact that HK is being listed as its own country (which it is not and I think never would want to be).
Taiwan is listed as a country, but Macau is not. Tibet is neither
I agree with the proposed solution that TIG changes the term from "countries" to "places".

that would be cool...

...the countries list was taken from an ISO standard list of countries and territories. The name, obviously abbreviated to 'countries' for convenience of length.
Regarding Hong Kong: for 99 years it was an official British territory... after that lease expired, it returned to China... HOWEVER... the 99yr lease only covered the area between hong kong proper and the mainland... so... in theory, Britain never had to give it back... but they did. :P
anyway... cool symphony written to commemorate the event... "Symphony 1997"... some really cool music.

there are bunches of 'countries' that have come and gone - anyone remember a certain wall coming down a while back??
Kind of like the idea of places visited as some of those countries are pretty darned big.... I know.... what about a map that users can just colour in???? - yup impractical no doubt - still....

Okay, I've added Macau and Tibet, and changed it to "Places Visited". Soon, I want to expand the country list so that you can add journals and cities and details about your visits

journals!

wow, journals are so cool. can I also upload pictures?
i got a lot of pictures from my trips to Hong Kong some of which I would love to add to some sort of journal over my visits to the place. the pictures, hmm is there any automated way in which an online system can create a thumbnail of images which are larger than 250x250/whatever so that I can still have my large pictures on my own server space but have thumbnails on TIG? thing is, I havent got a computer available at the moment giving me the option of just making thumbnails in photoshop or something
but really, i think that would be a great feature

Great idea Mike.
Somehow it seems unviable for my ideas of de-regionalising being a positive thing to be committing development to then

The bigger and more specific the list of countries and territories the better...
If you have to go through immigration to get from Hong Kong into China and vice versa then why shouldn't it be separate on the list - saying you have visited Hong Kong gives so much more information than saying you've visited China don't you think, Naomi? Or is your contention about being politically correct?

Political Boundaries

I think the political boundaries shown on maps are relative to whoever is making the map. For example, some maps show Palestine, most show Israel. It is all up to the map makers. Hopefully someday we will find a way to all agree on these boundaries.
Thanks,
Mike

Kishore! I know you want us to say India that's unfair cos u'r comparing Samson and Golliath. India is better for IT investments my professor told me so, happy now? Won't it be cool TIG is the place we've all been to and some people like Predattack, Ashwin, Lauren, Hai alias Angel_, Mossy and (need I say more) have this place as "country" of residence. Does anyone know Western Sahara is occupied (by US & Morocco) like US-Israel & Palestine or China & Tibet?
England is a place in Britain. If you visit England or Scotland you have automatically visited Britain so what's the rule should it be Britain or England and Scotland or should it be both Britain and in addition England and Scotland? I see duplicates. Why do we have EST as stamp and not GMT?
Lauren you win it is it I saw it too! It is not a XXX-&8 I saw it.
