Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria: The Plateau State Action Committee On
AIDS has finally transformed into an agency known as Plateau AIDS
Control Agency (PLACA).
With this development, Plateau State is now set to begin in earnest the
practical implementation of the state Plan Of Action (POA) on the control
and prevention of HIV/AIDS, which was developed two years ago through
funding from AIDS Prevention Initiative in Nigeria (APIN), with technical
support from HELP International, a reputable NGO, with headquaters in Jos,
the Plateau state capital.
The Executive Director of the Agency, Dr. John K. Jinug, who has since
assumed duty is expected to restructure and set-up the necessary
machinery that will enable the agency justify the state government's
commitment in reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS pandemic throughout
the state and Nigeria at large.
Jinug before his appointment was the Executive Director of HELP
International and chair of the Civil Society Consultative Group on
HIV/AIDS (CiSCGHAN) in Plateau state. Accordingly, the new leadership of
CiSCGHAN, in the state, Mr. Ezekiel Jamaika has commended the
state government for the political will it has exhibited in addressing
the HIV/AIDS pandemic through the establishment of an autonomous agency.
Mr. Jamaika, of the Christian Health Association Of Nigeria (CHAN)
took over from Dr. John Jinug.
