Hi all!
I'm new here, and wish to get to know at least some of you...if not all 
this is probably not a good topic for a first post, but this thing is bugging me and I'd like to hear what you guys think...
say you were sitting with an old friend, and this friend was talking to you about a guy he/she recently met. You keep hearing good stuff abt this guy and express your wish to meet him one day. Later in the conversation you learn that this guy smokes. Does that make you think negatively of him? and i don't mean drugs... just a regular cigarette.
i might be exaggerating, but seriously, i was put off when i knew the guy smoked. I'm not being too superficial am i? knowing that made me think he's irrational, unstable, and easily irritated. My uncle smokes, and he's irrational and implusive in an annoying way. That's probably only his character and smoking has nothing to do with it.... but think of this sentence:
A rational, emotionally stable person, smokes.
does it make sense. i think "smokes" doesn't logically fit with the rest.
question for girls: if a guy asked you out, would you turn him down just because he smokes? the habit of smoking is not nice, that's true, but what I want to highlight is the kind of people smokers usually are.
why do smokers share specific characterstics? that needs a whole new thread!

I smoked from age 16 - almost 21. I am 31 now and think smoking is even more gross than non-smokers! I don't consider myself shallow but I decided not to pursue a couple girls I liked because they smoked. We just stayed friends.
All smokers are instant buddies. A smoker can be standing on the street and somebody comes up and asks for a smoke and BOOM instant friend. It is kind of sad but I can't think of anything else that's this powerful at getting people together...ok maybe coffee and doughnuts. Damn you Krispy Creme!!! yum.

I used to smoke a lot in past, but now i smoke less, but more quality goods. (Cigarillos). Excellent taste.
I clean my teeth twice every day, that i keep up clean teeth and fresh breath.

Why do people smoke?

I don't smoke. When i was a child, i tried once, just childish curiosity, and that's enough to know the terrible taste of cigaretes.
My father is a cigarette-smoking-addict. My mom cannot persuade him to give up. I tried few times but he always get angry when some ppl say about that.
I have been asking myself "Why do ppl smoke cigarettes?"
Once my relative explained to others why he smoked after he had given up smoking. He said that he had to smoke to get warmer (that day he waited for one of his relative in the hospital). Oh, that's it, very easy to understand, but i didn't think of this reason - to get warmer.
I just have a guess here. Cigarettes are anyway stimulant, so it may help people to feel better, especially when people have to suffer stress in the world today. Thus people who smoke are the ones who have stress in their lives, hard work to care for, problems to think of, and responsibles to shoulder. Other wise, people use cigarettes to relieve their head-ache problems because they want to manage things themselves and don't want others to think that they are having troubles in what they are doing. That's why men smoke more than women, women in developed countries smoke more than women in lower developed countries.

Let me ask u some questions:
1. Do u smoke?
If yes, what/who gave u the first?
2. Did u smoke?
If yes, why did u give up and how could u?
3. Most ppl think of cigarettes when hearing 'smoke'.
How about other things like cigar, pipe tobacco ...?
Are they as bad as cigarettes?
4. What, do u think, are the reasons ppl smoke?
If u know some ppl that can give the answers for those questions, post their saying here for us all to know.

Not anymore. Smoked my first cigarette while walking with a smoker friend. I just looked at him one day and said "give me one of those" just to try them. I was trying to see what the big deal was.

If yes, why did u give up and how could u?
Yes. I smoked on and off for about 4 years. I quit for good after I began having respiratory problems. I smoked "other" stuff too that I'd rather not mention here ; ^ )
3. Most ppl think of cigarettes when hearing 'smoke'.
How about other things like cigar, pipe tobacco ...?
Are they as bad as cigarettes?
they can be worse because many pipes and cigars are unfiltered.
4. What, do u think, are the reasons ppl smoke?
I started not out of peer pressure but peer curiousity. Most kids who start do it because they think it's cool.

It is high time for us to ask people who smoke the main reason why they smoking. Many who smoke in my area smoke because they seen people doing it and they want to taste it without asking for the reason why they are doing that. Enough is enough for coping cat and high time for reality.
I will like to read from people who are smoking reason why they are smoking for me to justify my opinion.

well am a 22 yr old bahraini ,i grew up in an american skool,i bin livin in new zealand for the past 4 yrs now,i have a great personality(opinions strongly put onto me by others)am patient,never been in wit any sort of criminal activity ,been all over the world,experienced every mind alterin substance(experimental only)a great son and brother(my parents have no regrets)great student(never ever have i dissapointed my teachers after the age of 10)BUT I SMOKE....
it doesnt show anything,it doesnt prove my characteristics,just cuz ghandi,mother teresa,the pope or any other angel figure hasnt been smoking dun make the smokers criminals.
u wud say then the doctor who is going 2 diagnose u smokes ,so he isnt 2 b trusted or the teacher that failed u, didnt matter cuz they smoked,bullshit shit,these little forum boards been put put up by ass kissin nerds who were 2 afraid 2 take risk in life is the reason why all u opionated and judgmentle people will always b stuck in that simple and boring stage of our growing and evolving generation.
i dont blame our culture its growing through religion but the people who mistaken knowledge for envy.

persoanlly i ate smoking, it is a disgusting filthy habit, i have friends taht smoke and i dont think any less of them, well actaully i knid of do but nothing in a way that will damage the friendship. I dont pressure them to quit i let them do what they want and people want to smoke thats their choice - no skin of my back if they decide to kill themselves slowly.
Point is you can not generalise a person just because of what they use/do with themselves. if tobacco products were never invenetd and only today came on the market they would never make it past FDA auhtorities - and would be online the same lines as marijuana in terms of use. the world is slowly reforming (more western culture) to minimise smoking and i can not wait for teh day for it to happen.
