Hey,

I was looking through the "First Arabic Post" discussion and I think its really cool that you can write in Arabic on TIG.

The problem is (as someone else said) not everyone (myself included) can understand Arabic - However I would love to learn the language (not sure which version though)!!

I was speaking to Yara and she was teaching me some words and its amazing how some of the slang can differ,
so: I decided I would put up this post and Arabic speaking people can teach me and others words from their area.

What do you think? Can you help me out??

Nice one guys,

With all the different dialects, do you think that the name of the languge (Arabic) will cease to exist one day soon and the languages wil be defined Egyptian, Lebanese, Tunisian etc like how Latin did?

Anyway keep up the good teachings!!

Hi Sean,

I don't see that dialects would be separate languages as long as classic Arabic is used in books, newspapers, TV News, and official matters, and most important: The language of the Qur'an,which is the holy book of Islam.

Hi sean,
asslema (Tunisian slang) : Marhaba (Formal Arabic ) = Hi
That's the first thing to learn.
I'm really happy there's TIG members who are intersted in learning arabic. Thank you for such interest.
But maybe you'll have some difficulty with arabic speakers on TIG because we have different dialects.
language= lougha (Arabic)
Good night = Tosbeh ala khir (h is pronouced differently and kh is also a letter that doesn't exist in English and other languages.
Cheers,

Hi Sean,
Very nice idea for a discussion ,so as I was telling you:
EZZAYAK(for a man) and EZZAYEK (for a woman) means how are you in the Egyptian slang..
and in many arabic slangs you can say it: KEFAK

And there's also the word VERY:
In Egyptian it's AWI or GEDAN
In Tunisian BARSHA
and in moroccan it's another word that I can't really remember...

And the question"WHAT"S YOUR NEWS":
In Egyptian EIH AKHBARAK
in other arabic slangs it's SHOO AKHBARAK

Actually, all of these slangs are a bit different from the classic arabic, that's why Omar it was a bit weird when people hear you talking in classic arabic,it just became a bit strange according to our current slangs..

Actually, the amazing thing that when I was in Morocco I couldn't understand a single word from their dialect,it's so surprizing even though we're all arabic speakers and in Tunisia also they were really surprized whenever anyone speaks to me I was asking them to slow down a bit so I can understand, but they've got a loevly dialect by the way..

matic...ezzayak .... elhamdollah koiesa (said by a female speaker) means (Communicative Translation: I am fine)(Word-For-Word Translation: I am fine thank Allah(God)).

One feature of Arabic language is that there are linguistic morphemses that mark gender, plurality as well as dual, which is not in English. For Example:
modares... male teacher
modaresa.. female teacher
modaresaan.. two male teachers
modaresataan.. two female teachers
modareseen... more than two male teachers
modaresaat... more than two female teachers

I made a notbook to write down the other Arabic Dialects, interesting discussion, keep it up. But guys, why do not type also in Arabic, just for the TIGers to get used how Arabic Letters look like, unfortunately, my pc cannot type in Arabic.
So today`s lesson smile
*wahashteeny... I missed you (for a female.)
*wahashteny... I missed you (for a male.)
*wahastoony... I missed you (for a group of people.)

Salamo Alikom,
Injy
