Smoking in Public Places

Personally I'm not a fan of people smoking around me. Don't they realize that they really are putting other lives in danger while smoking in public areas? I think Smoking in public areas should be banned. What about you?

mm.... there are more reasons than looking cool to smoking.
a public smoking ban would be hard, since then, where would people smoke? I don't smoke, but I'm just not sure where else they are to go...

smokers should think not only about them selves, not only about the victims who suffers from their behaviour but also about people who care for them, about the pain they will cause them while fihting against cancer.....
very sad but very realistic also!

first i want to say that i am not a smoker, and i think it's very disturbing if someone smokes beside me.
in my opinion smokers are egoists because they endanger the health of other people.
i also think that smoking in restaurants should be forbidden.
if their addiction is so strong, they should smoke outdoors.

I have a terrible alergy with this , I just can't tolerate smoking beside me .
I believe that no has the right to ban someone of doing something to himslef, but we have the right to stop someone from harming us and causing us feel bad .

I am not a smoker either, and I hate it for it’s a bad habit (with respect to me and health wise anyway). Cigarette smoke makes me feel like my world is ending; it leaves you smelling worst than a chain smokers saliva.
I am for the point that public smoking be banned, but provisions should be made for those who want to kill themselves with smoking to do so in public smoking houses.
Once in Brussels, I got to know there were public confection houses were cigarettes were being sold with other smokers delicacies, in there, they can smoke the hell out of them without disturbing others with their smoke. Anybody who goes in there is going for a smoke and so it’s ok with everyone else. I’ve met these same houses in some parts of the Africa, notably South Africa and Kenya.
It’s really disgusting when people have to smoke in public, night clubs, drinking spots, cinema etc and care the damn about the inconveniences it brings on non-smokers.

I fell the same thing . But i'm asking my friends (all the time) to give up smoking for themselves not only because i don't like smoking beside me!
I can't bare that people who smoke, are ignoring their health! It's such important matter

In Canada these days, you can't smoke in any goverment building of any kind at any level of goverment. Furthermore, you can no longer smoke in restaurants in some cities in Canada. Also, most major venues, such as movie theatres, indoor statiums etc. are also smoke free. In Halifax, which is why I like the area a lot is that you can't smoke in bars which is sooo nice to come home and not smell like an ashtray.
We're heading in the right direction in Canada...

I agree with Abongta - it wouldn't be fair to completely ban smoking (yet) but smoking public should be illegal, even outside. It's not fair to people waiting for the bus, for example, to be constantly breathing in the smoke of inconsiderate people who don't realize that they're inconveniencing others.
If you want to smoke, please go ahead - but do it some place where it won't affect me or anyone else that has chosen not to smoke.

Wow... thats amazing. I hope that the Indian Government enforces a similar ban soon. But it is easier said than done, especially because the Tobacco Industry is so huge and many people earn their livelihood from it.
