I met with the federal shadow minister for education today, exchanged business cards and had a bit of a chat.
I'd like to hear as much input as possible from people about what I can tell her the youth in australia, even youth around the world, want changed, improved or funded within education.
please send me some views that I can put forward to her, if you dont I'll just make up some stuff about how we should all live in trees and eat berries, so give me some input people !
or it'll appear we are all tree dwelling lunatics...*looks down through the leaves for a moment"
hope to see some feedback piling up here...if I dont...I'll keep posting till I do...*evil smile*

Possible first lesson, the first day at school, in three languages if possible!
J.K. "There is only one earth."
S.K. " There is only one earth, one people."
Grade 1 "One earth, one people, many written histories."
Grade 2 " One earth, people, many written histories but
only one true past."
Grade 3 "One earth, people, past, present, future."
Just a possible foundation! World Wide!

haha....that would be a pretty funny lesson plan not_neo...
"what lesson do we have now johnny"
"we have ..double big round ball in space, single old big round ball in space"
Anyways...torin wrote a thing about public vs. private...and that needs some attention. We need youth allouence for those students who have parents who make to much money to get any but then dont give there kids shit all...
oh...and there needs to be more lesson choices...damn that shit...i hated australian studies...
Anyways...schools just need more funding, teachers need to be paid more and become more multi-skilled...
------ mental blank -------
I might come back and put more

I totally agree with Jacesnel comments. It sucks that whilst I am busting my gut trying to manage a uni degree along with casual job, people the same age that I went to high school with who basically sit around and do nothing all day can claim all this money. There is something wrong there.
I'm back at Uni next week - studying primary teaching. I'll throw it open to a few people from my classes and see what response I get...
I'll keep you posted....

not ha ha ha, serious
Too many "world leasers" have not gotten past junior kindergarden.
Like i've said before on other posts, everyone should go back to school. Everyone has something to teach and something to learn.
What and how would you propose to teach all the "yet to be" children of the world if those who are here now are all seduced into "their" own government and religious doctrines?
Full of "we and they" and "us and them" attitude/ways, of seeing and doing things?
Think ahead and global!

I know that this is an old thread - but I happen to think that information is information - old or new, and to reply to some post made for instance 5 years ago is no shame. Who knows, maybe in 5 years someone will read this and take the discussion further
Having been active in student democracy myself I have been in your situation several times hamish - meeting a person from the government / parliament and really feeling the need of telling this person about the real world - and what real students/young people thing about - for instance - higher education.
I am eager to hear about how things went with you in that meeting. What came out of it?
Then - well - there is a lot going on in higher education these days. Heard about the GATS treaty? Here is a link for you about it (from the European Student's Union):
http://www.esib.org/commodification/documents/index.htm
Many students in Europe are very worried about what effects it could have if Education is included in this GATS treaty - which means that education is seen as a service (which Australia is very keen at - as you prolly know Australian universities makes LOADS of money of "exporting educational services" to students from - among other places - Norway) and suddenly national governments might be restricted in how they can subsidize higher education at home...
I think that is something which you could involve yourself in, being from Australia and living under that tertiary education system.
Otherwise, well of course the funding of higher education in general is a big issue. And what about the tuition fees? Currently, at Cambridge University UK the student union is having / has had a campaign saying "Grants, not fees" - and this being in a country where the fees system has been living for years.
Here is a link with some info, including background info:
http://www.cusu.cam.ac.uk/campaigns/funding/
Students around the world - well I think that information sharing is here (as in any other issue, really) crucial. What kind of issues are you facing in Australia? What is the challenges for students there?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
best regards,
dltq
