[Poll] Encouraging Youth Participation in Fundraising

I would like to know any ideas people may have for engaging young people (from over-developed countries) in fundraising and donating some of their disposable income to causes in other parts of the world. It seems a lot of the donors for NGOs come from the middle-class, middle-age population. I'm looking for creative ways to engage young people in a meaningful way that can be done at a large/national level - and maybe ideas for local level too but I find that a little bit easier when there are opportunities for personal relationships to develop, etc.
Thanks for any help offered.
Do you think young people in the west are mostly selfish or mostly selfless?
